During the program, representatives of Engineering Unit No. 5 presented gifts to the school and 10 outstanding students, encouraging them to continue their efforts in studying, training, and nurturing their dreams. Although the gifts were not materially significant, they demonstrated the care and sharing of the Vietnamese blue-helmet soldiers towards the younger generation in Abyei.
The atmosphere of the exchange became lively with paper-folding activities directly guided by members of the Women's Union and Youth Union. From simple sheets of paper, the students crafted colorful handmade products, showcasing their dexterity and creativity, while also having the opportunity to interact with Vietnamese soldiers.
The moment when the students and blue-helmet soldiers launched paper planes created a memorable highlight. The small planes soaring into the Abyei sky carried with them laughter and youthful dreams. This simple activity also conveyed encouragement for the students to continue studying, nurturing ambitions, and aiming for a bright and peaceful future.
The students were also guided to sing the song “Nhu co Bac Ho trong ngay vui dai thang”, a song associated with the joy of victory and the peace aspirations of the Vietnamese people.
Despite language differences, the cheerful melodies created closeness, helping local students learn more about Vietnamese culture. The program concluded with a photo session between the staff of Engineering Unit No. 5 and the school's teachers and students.
On behalf of the school, Mr. Santino Jok Mijak, Principal of Abyei's Inter-Level High School, expressed gratitude for the affection that Engineering Unit No. 5 extended to the teachers and students.
He assessed that the program brought joy and motivation for the students, while also helping the school learn more about the country, people, and culture of Vietnam. The friendliness and sharing spirit of the Vietnamese peacekeepers left a positive impression, contributing to strengthening the friendship between both sides.
The compassionate spirit of Vietnamese women
The activities on the occasion of the founding of the Vietnam Women's Union also serve as an opportunity to promote the role, responsibility, and creativity of female officers, union members, and youth in fulfilling international duties.
At the UNISFA, female soldiers not only fulfill their professional duties but also actively participate in community-oriented activities, demonstrating the dedication and compassionate spirit of Vietnamese women.
In the harsh climate conditions and challenging living conditions of Abyei, Engineering Unit No. 5 not only undertakes tasks of building, repairing, and upgrading infrastructure for the Mission but also focuses on civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) activities, supporting the local community. Cultural exchange programs, gift-giving, and educational support help motivate the local people, enhancing trust and bonding between peacekeeping forces and the community.
The value of these activities lies not only in the gifts or a single exchange session but also in the connections built through shared experiences. When students fold paper, sing Vietnamese songs, and share joy with soldiers from a distant land, language and cultural barriers are bridged by sincerity. This is also how the values of peace and friendship are conveyed through concrete actions.
