Vietnamese community in Belarus: Opening of the 4th Vietnamese Language Summer Camp

On July 28, in Prilesye village, on the outskirts of Minsk, the Embassy of Vietnam in Belarus, in coordination with the Vietnamese Association, held a ceremony to honor the Vietnamese language and inaugurate the 4th Vietnamese Language Summer Camp for the Vietnamese community in Belarus.

The event was attended by a large number of members of the Vietnamese Association who are working, studying, and living in Belarus, students from the Vietnamese language class, and the entire staff of Vietnam’s representative offices in Belarus.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Belarus Nguyen Van Trung praised the rich, diverse, and highly practical activities organized by the Vietnamese Association in Belarus to promote community solidarity, preserve and honor the nation’s traditional cultural values.

He highlighted the preservation and promotion of the Vietnamese language in Belarus as an outstanding cultural activity and a bright spot in community life there. The Vietnamese Language Summer Camp is a meaningful initiative, and 2025 marks the fourth successful camp, enthusiastically embraced by the community.

On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Van Trung officially launched activities to honour the Vietnamese language, introduce and promote Vietnamese culture, identity, and values.

This event is part of the implementation of the project “Vietnamese Language Honour Day for Overseas Vietnamese Communities 2023–2030” and is also a practical activity during the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s founding and other major national celebrations in 2025.

Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Association Nong Van Thin expressed gratitude for the Party and State’s attention to the lives and activities of overseas Vietnamese.

The Vietnamese Association also thanked the Embassy for supporting and sponsoring the event and expressed hope that Vietnamese representative offices would continue to accompany the community not only in activities honoring the Vietnamese language but also in other cultural and community exchange events.

On behalf of the Vietnamese language class, teacher Nguyen Phuong Dung shared that in 2025, with support from the Embassy and some benefactors in the community, the Vietnamese Language Summer Camp would last four days, with numerous rich, diverse, and creative activities for children of all ages. These include performances by the children’s art troupe, dancing, singing, poetry recitation in Vietnamese, drawing contests, handicrafts, storytelling, and conversations in their mother tongue.

As a teacher who is deeply dedicated to preserving and teaching Vietnamese in the Belarusian community, Nguyen Phuong Dung initiated and has persistently organized Vietnamese language classes since 2016.

The classes welcome children of various ages. At its peak, it had more than 40 students, meeting once a week. The first generation of students has grown up and is now fully confident and proud of their mother-tongue proficiency gained from these community classes.

The Vietnamese community in Belarus currently numbers over 600 people, spanning nearly four generations. They have established stable lives and livelihoods, upheld traditions of solidarity and mutual support, and always maintained a strong bond with their homeland. The community is devoted to contributing to Vietnam and fostering friendship and unity between the peoples of the two countries.
