Eight Vietnamese female athletes and their coaches are undergoing an intensive training programme in Caen city, France's Normandy region, as part of preparations for the Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

The training since October 2 is part of a sports cooperation agreement between Vietnam’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Francophone Association for Sport (AFS). It is jointly implemented by AFS, the Normandie Sports Centre (CSN), the Camp Academie Elite Normandie Training Centre (Caen Training), and athletics and fencing clubs in Caen.

The Vietnamese team, consisting of leading athletes in athletics and fencing, are receiving specialised coaching based on France’s advanced training methods. This marks the first long-term training course for Vietnamese athletes in France.

Under the agreement signed on May 26, 2025, AFS and Vietnam aim to train 100 elite athletes and 20 coaches in about ten sports, targeting medal-winning performances at the Olympics between 2028 and 2036.

AFS said the programme reflects a shared ambition to leverage Normandy’s sporting strengths and build a lasting bridge of cooperation with Asia through sport.

With its modern facilities and long-standing coaching expertise, Normandy is expected to help Vietnam strengthen international sporting exchanges and Olympics preparations.
