At the consultation, the two sides exchanged views and agreed on specific measures to bring more substance in and increase effectiveness for Vietnam - Portugal relations. The Portuguese side highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in socio-economic development and international integration as well as its role in Southeast Asia and in ASEAN. The Portuguese Government reaffirmed that Vietnam is a priority partner in the region.
Regarding the economic cooperation, the two sides were delighted of the positive achievements in trade exchange and discussed the need in exploiting cooperation opportunities in maritime economics (port management, logistics, shipbuilding, tourism, aquaculture, marine science and technology...), energy and tourism.

On this occasion, Teresa Ribeiro informed that the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (AICEP) is planning to host a field trip for Portuguese entrepreneurs in 2018 to seek opportunities for economic cooperation with Vietnam. Permanent DFM Bui Thanh Son welcomed Portuguese entrepreneurs to explore the business opportunities in Vietnam and confirmed that the Vietnamese Government is eager to provide the best assistance.
To enhance the relations between the two Ministries, DFM Bui Thanh Son suggested the two sides working closely together to implement the Memoranda of Understanding on the establishment of a political consultation mechanism between Vietnam-Portugal Ministries, and cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam and the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The DPM also stressed the importance to soon ratify the agreement on visa waiver for diplomatic passport holder.
The two sides also exchanged notes on Vietnam-EU relations. Portugal stressed that its Government will continue to foster the Vietnam-EU relations within the EU-Vietnam Framework Agreement on Comprehensive Partnership and Cooperation (PCA). Ribeiro emphasized that Portugal will urge EU soon to ratify the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).
Regarding the East Sea, Ribeiro said that Portugal supports the position of Vietnam on settling disputes through peaceful means, on the basis of the international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
