Vietnam-Thailand cultural and fashion exchange at 'Ao Dai Meet Thai Silk'

The Embassy of Viet Nam in Thailand and See The World Travel Company (Viet Nam), in collaboration with the Thai Silk Association of Thai Silk and Culture Promotions held Special Vietnamese Fashion Night "Ao dai Meet Thai Silk" on December 7th, 2022 at Siam Paragon, Bangkok, Thailand.

This event is a part of the 3rd International Thai Silk Fashion Week from 6th to 11th of December 2022 and patronized by the Royal Thai Government and coordinated by the Prime Minister Office of Thailand and sponsored by See The World Travel, CP Group and Bangkok Bank.

More than 30 beauty queens and models from Viet Nam and Thailand sponsored by Senvang Entertainment (Viet Nam) and Thai Silk Association of Thai Silk and Culture Promotions introduced 5 collections of the Vietnamese national costumes áo dài to the Thai and international public of five top designers from Viet Nam: Tran Thien Khanh, Ngo Nhat Huy, Duy Hoang, Lan Huong, Ruby Tran, arranged and directed Anthony Vo and Miss Phan Hieu.

When Vietnam's Ao Dai Meets Thai Silk

A large audience of fashion lovers including the Thai government senior officials, ambassadors, diplomatic corps, business leaders of Thailand, Viet Nam and other countries attended the fashion show. On behalf of the Royal Thai Government, Deputy Spokesperson of the Thai Government Tipanan Sirichana warmly welcomed the designers from Viet Nam who creatively use Thai Silk to design Vietnamese fashion.

She emphasized that Thailand and Viet Nam are not only linked economically but through Thai Silk the two countries are culturally linked closer than ever.

In his welcoming remarks, the Ambassador of Viet Nam to Thailand H.E. Mr Phan Chi Thanh thanked the Royal Thai Government and the Organizing Committee of the 3r International Thai Silk Fashion Week 2022 for the enthusiasm and valuable support extended to the Embassy and the Vietnamese designers, models and the whole delegation to attend the Thai Silk Week.

This year, the Embassy organized Special Ao Dai (long costumes) Fashion Show in Thai Silk to make a special gift to Queen Mother Sirikit on the occasion of Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday Anniversary and had invited a large number of the best designers and beauty queens from Viet Nam to perform the Thai Silk fashion show. He said Ao dai Meet Thai silk meant the Vietnamese and Thai cultures really met with each other symbolizing a wonderful cultural togetherness and sustainable fashion values created when ao dai were made by Thai and Vietnamese Silk.

During the Thai Silk Week, on December 8, the Embassy of Viet Nam and the Thailand Viet Nam Friendship Association in collaboration with the Amata Group, See the World Travel held Talk-show on the topic of Fashion and Sustainable Development in Thailand and Viet Nam.

The speakers including Ambassador Phan Chi Thanh, Chaiman of Thailand Viet Nam Friendship Association Sanan Angobolkul, Chairman of Amata Group (Thailand) Mr. Vikrom Kromadit, Miss Intercontinental 2022 Le Nguyen Bao Ngoc, Designer Lai Y Phuong (Viet Nam) and Scholar Luong Viet Thanh Tung (The University of Edinburgh, UK) discussed the issues how the perception, customs and habits of fast fashion should be changed to using environmentally friendly fashion and a social responsibility of designers, manufacturers, fashion promoters, researchers for sustainable fashion in achieving SDGs goal 12 “Sustainable Consumption and Production”.

The speakers also elaborated on the topic how sustainable fashion fit to the BCG Model of Thailand to the Green Growth of Viet Nam.
