Vietnam secures third place in Khan Academy adoption for education among 192 nations

Silicon Valley-based organization Khan Academy just announced that Vietnam has achieved third place globally, outside the US, in utilising its free online learning platform, Khan Academy (Vietnamese website: https://vi.khanacademy.org/), for school-directed learners in 2023.

Ranking only behind Brazil and India, Vietnam is a leading participant in Khan Academy's mission to provide "free education anytime, anywhere," which spans 192 nations and has attracted more than 145 million users.

"We are incredibly proud of the progress made by the Khan Academy Vietnam team in such a short period since the beginning of 2022,” said Sandeep Bapna, Vice President of International at Khan Academy. “This achievement is a testament to the potential of digital learning platforms in transforming education worldwide. Vietnam has emerged as a pioneering country, deserving the attention and admiration of the global community."

Khan Academy Vietnam (KAV), a non-profit educational program implemented by The Vietnam Foundation (VNF) as the official and sole representative of Khan Academy in Vietnam, has successfully established over 1 million accounts and nearly 1300 "KAV Open Schools." By the end of 2023, these “Open Schools” were actively used by more than 10,000 teachers.

Moreover, over 40 specialized classes have been opened by volunteers on the online community, enabling students from various regions to self-study under the guidance and support of experienced students and learners at Khan Academy. The SAT Open Class attracted over 1,400 students from 44 provinces, and the Khan Academy Math Mastery classes drew more than 1,300 students.

Through the KAV Open School and KAV Open Class models, VNF has extended Khan Academy to every corner of the country, from urban areas such as Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Dong Nai to rural and mountainous regions like Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh. All 22 million Vietnamese students now have the opportunity to register and participate in the free learning program of mathematical and modern subjects from the United States on the Khan Academy platform, available in Vietnamese or English.

In response to these remarkable achievements, Pham Duc Trung Kien, founder of The Vietnam Foundation, stated, "Our biggest hope is that every Vietnamese student has an account to use the Khan Academy online platform, allowing them to self-study the highest quality content in Mathematics and other subjects from the United States for free, for life. This goal is within reach thanks to the Vietnamese government's strategic investment in digital infrastructure, which has greatly facilitated online education."

Building on this success, at the end of February 2024, VNF, in collaboration with the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics, under the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, the Vietnam Association of Mathematics Education, and Khan Academy, will host an international conference on "Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Education." The conference will be attended by representatives from 18 countries from the Americas, Europe, and Asia.
