Vietnam secures 16th UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage with Ba Chua Xu Festival

WVR - Vietnam's cultural heritage received another global accolade as the Ba Chua Xu (Holy Mother of the Realm) Festival, held annually at Sam Mountain in An Giang province, was officially inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The recognition was announced on December 4, 2024 during the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, held in Paraguay.

With this latest inscription, Vietnam now has a total of 16 intangible cultural heritage elements acknowledged by UNESCO, highlighting the country's rich and diverse cultural traditions.

The Ba Chua Xu Festival is a significant spiritual and cultural event in the Mekong Delta region, attracting millions of pilgrims each year who come to pay tribute and seek blessings from the revered deity.
