Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu, Chairman of the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, on April 26 visited and congratulated Professor and Conductor Le Phi Phi, son of the late composer Hoang Van, on the occasion of UNESCO’s official inscription of the "Musician Hoang Van’s Collection" into the Memory of the World Register.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Vu extended heartfelt congratulations to the family, emphasizing that the recognition not only honors the composer’s outstanding legacy but also reaffirms the enduring stature of Vietnam’s revolutionary music. He noted that the inscription elevates Vietnamese culture within the global intellectual heritage and highlights Vietnam’s proactive role and contributions to global civilisation.

The Deputy Minister praised the family’s sustained efforts in preserving, promoting, and internationalizing the invaluable collection, contributing to the dissemination of Vietnamese musical heritage worldwide. He expressed hope that the family would continue to collaborate with relevant authorities in preserving the collection, enhancing research, and educating younger generations both in Vietnam and abroad.

Also attending the meeting, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong stressed the historic significance of musician Hoang Van’s collection — the first Vietnamese musical work and the only one in the region to date — being inscribed in the UNESCO Memory of the World Register. He said the achievement not only honors Hoang Van’s exceptional contributions but also marks a milestone in Vietnam’s broader efforts to safeguard and promote its cultural heritage on the international stage.

Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong applauded the family’s initiative in digitizing the entire collection and building a multilingual website (in Vietnamese, English, French, Russian, and Chinese), enabling broad public access and nurturing pride among younger generations.

On behalf of the family, Professor and Conductor Le Phi Phi expressed deep gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a tribute not only to the late musician but also to the entire Vietnamese music community. He pledged to continue preserving and promoting Hoang Van’s legacy to audiences both at home and internationally.

Composer Hoang Van (1930–2018) is regarded as one of the foundational figures of modern Vietnamese music, making significant contributions across symphonic, choral, cinematic, and children’s music, and leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come.
