Denmark has pursued a green, sustainable growth-oriented vision for over 50 years, accumulating a wealth of valuable and diverse experience in this field.
The Nordic country is now one of the global frontrunners in green transition, offering breakthrough technologies and innovative thinking that support economic growth while conserving resources, using them efficiently, and minimizing environmental impact.
Between 1990 and 2021, Denmark’s GDP grew by 62%, while CO₂ emissions dropped by 43%, water consumption fell by 39%, and total energy consumption decreased by 11%. Denmark accounts for just 0.1% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Concrete cooperation milestones
Vietnam and Denmark have long enjoyed a tradition of cooperation in green growth and sustainable development, achieving many notable results. In 2011, the two countries established a Strategic Partnership in climate change, energy, environment, and green growth.
In 2013, they upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership, with green transition and sustainable development remaining a consistent focus across sectors such as trade, investment, energy, healthcare, agriculture and food, and education.
The Vietnam-Denmark Energy Partnership Program, launched in 2013, has delivered tangible outcomes. The two sides have jointly developed and published Energy Outlook Reports, offering assessments and policy recommendations that promote the sustainable development of the energy sector through enhanced use of clean and renewable energy, along with improved energy efficiency and conservation.
Building on this foundation, the Vietnam-Denmark Strategic Sector Cooperation on food and agriculture began in 2017, aiming to support Vietnam’s green transition by creating a more sustainable food and agriculture system.
The collaborative projects have had a clear impact on food safety in Vietnam, particularly in areas such as food processing, feed control, and traceability in the pork value chain.
P4G is the world’s leading forum for promoting public–private partnerships, bringing together governments, businesses, and socio-political organizations to drive green growth. |
In November 2023, Vietnam and Denmark officially established a Green Strategic Partnership, covering 10 comprehensive areas of cooperation and adopted a Joint Action Plan for the 2024-2025 period.
In economic cooperation, Vietnam has prioritized attracting green investment and expanding collaboration in renewable energy, maritime transport, and logistics. These efforts aim to help businesses from both countries seize opportunities in green value and supply chains, and take advantage of advanced technologies.
The S-shaped nation has successfully drawn numerous high-quality green investment projects from Denmark. A notable example is LEGO Group’s carbon-neutral factory project in Bình Dương (Vietnam) - the first of its kind in the world. With a total investment of USD 1.3 billion, the project will employ approximately 4,000 workers and is set to be inaugurated and begin operations on April 9, 2025.
Most Danish investment projects in Vietnam focus on green production, emphasize corporate social responsibility, and have widespread impact-serving as models of high-quality investment. These projects reflect Vietnam’s commitment to attracting sustainable initiatives and achieving its net-zero emissions target by 2050.
These tangible and effective projects and partnerships stand as proof of the shared aspirations and vision between Vietnam and Denmark. They also represent the strong commitment and determination of the two nations’ leaders and people toward green growth and sustainable development-laying a critical foundation for elevating bilateral relations to new heights.

A responsible and proactive member
As a founding member and official partner of the Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Forum, Vietnam has long played an active and responsible role, working closely with other members to advance the Forum’s agenda, vision, and mission.
This year, Vietnam will join forces with Denmark and other P4G members to co-host the fourth P4G Summit in Hanoi. With the theme “Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition,” the summit will feature a substantive and dynamic agenda. It serves as clear evidence of Vietnam’s strong commitment and aims to deliver practical solutions to accelerate the green transition and sustainable development.
As the world faces rapidly evolving, unpredictable challenges - and with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) deadline approaching - Vietnam’s efforts and determination have been recognized and welcomed by the international community.
Denmark, the initiator and largest financial contributor to P4G, has strongly supported Vietnam’s bid to host the summit and has actively collaborated throughout its planning and organization.

P4G is the world’s leading forum for promoting public–private partnerships, bringing together governments, businesses, and socio-political organizations to drive green growth. By hosting the Summit, Vietnam gains a unique opportunity to mobilize the participation of domestic and international businesses, as well as P4G partners, in advancing the green transition, addressing climate change, and promoting sustainable development.
Cooperation within the P4G framework also deepens the existing partnership between Vietnam and Denmark. Through P4G, Vietnam can advocate for Denmark’s support and collaboration in the form of public-private partnerships, offering financial and technical assistance to small and micro enterprises to implement environmental protection and climate resilience initiatives.
These are highly relevant areas for Vietnam, and so far, 12 projects have been or are currently being implemented in the country through this cooperation mechanism.
Looking ahead, green transition and sustainable development are not just current trends - they are the shared goals and grand ideals of humanity, aimed at improving well-being and quality of life. Green growth and sustainability are strategic priorities that require collective action and the participation of all stakeholders - from central to local governments, citizens, businesses, and political and social organizations.
This includes young people, who, if empowered and given opportunities, will become a driving force in advancing green growth and sustainable development in both Vietnam and the world.
Vietnam will host the P4G Vietnam Summit under the theme “Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition”, in Hanoi from April 14-17. The 4th P4G Summit is expected to be chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, with a scale of welcoming about 600 domestic and international delegates. In addition to leaders of the Government, ministries, central and local departments, and large enterprises of Vietnam, the conference welcomes senior leaders of P4G member countries and international organizations that are partners of P4G. Representatives of leaders of countries, international organizations, corporations, enterprises, financial funds, large investments of the Government and private sector in the fields of growth, green transformation, and climate change also attend the conference. |
