Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son lauds the Belgian government in overcoming the effects of the financial-economic crisis, bringing the Belgian economy back to a healthy growth.

Secretary General Dirk Achten also praises the socio-economic achievements of Vietnam in recent years and congratulating Vietnam on successful organization of APEC 2017.

The two sides stressed on keeping the good relations between the two countries on various fields such as economy, culture, education and defence, leading to the 45th anniversary of Vietnam - Belgium diplomatic ties. It was highlighted by the visit to Belgium by Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue (September 2017) and Vietnam’s visit by Secretary of State for Foreign Trade Pieter de Crem (October 2017).

The two sides agreed to continue to promote exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially the high-level exchanges, to strengthen cooperation and mutual support in multilateral forums and international organizations such as the United Nations (UN), Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM), the ASEAN-EU Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN-EU) and Francophonie.

Secretary General Achten agreed that Belgium fully supports the signing and completion of EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), stating that it will bring pratical benefits to the EU and its member countries through the expansion and diversification of markets, creating closer links between Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

Deputy FM Bui Thanh Son and Secretary General Dirk Achten stressed the importance of peace, stability, security, safety, freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-use or non-threat of force, based on the basis of international law, respect for the diplomatic and legal process, United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.

The two sides also agreed on cooperating to organize cultural and economic events to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Belgium diplomatic ties (1973-2018) in each country.
