Vietnam and the United Nations foster sustainable development path

On September 23, Vietnam and the UN marked a new phase in their long-standing partnership with the official handover of the National Program Documents for the 2027-2031 period of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for Vietnam, along with Vietnam's decision to extend the free provision of the One UN Green House headquarters, bringing the total duration to 20 years.
The handover ceremony took place in New York during the UN General Assembly High-Level Week, at the special event “Rising Together: Vietnam-UN Partnership for Sustainable Development”, chaired by General Secretary and President To Lam.
Minister of Finance Ngo Van Tuan handed over the new National Program Documents (CPD) to UNDP Administrator Alexander De Croo, UNFPA Executive Director Diene Keita, and UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang handed over to the UNDP Administrator the Amended Agreement of the 2012 Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Vietnam and UNDP on the renovation and use of the One UN Green House in Hanoi.
The three National Program Documents outline how UN agencies will collaborate with the Government and partners over the next five years, supporting Vietnam's development priorities and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The new programs are being implemented as Vietnam aims to become a high-income developed country by 2045 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, while addressing climate change, technological transformation, demographic changes, and existing inequalities.
“Vietnam's development journey has transformed its relationship with the UN. From a recipient of international support, Vietnam is increasingly contributing its experiences, solutions, and initiatives to the global agenda,” affirmed Pauline Tamesis, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam.
According to Pauline Tamesis, guided by the new Cooperation Framework for 2027-2031, the new National Program Documents reflect a shift towards a more strategic and reciprocal partnership.
Simultaneously, the UN hopes Vietnam will continue to share experiences, solutions, and contribute to progress and development at the international level.
