In response to the invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump, General Secretary To Lam emphasized Vietnam's consistent stance of supporting and being ready to contribute to the international community's efforts to resolve conflicts and disputes through peaceful means. This approach aligns with international law and the United Nations Charter, respecting the fundamental rights of all parties involved.
Vietnam believes that forming the Peace Council is essential for implementing the Gaza Strip Peace Plan, which was endorsed by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution No. 2803 on November 17, 2025. The resolution encourages UN member states to join the Peace Council to promote peace, humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
In this spirit, General Secretary To Lam accepted the invitation to join the Peace Council, affirming Vietnam's readiness to participate as a Founding Member State. Vietnam aims to work alongside the United States and the international community to contribute positively towards a comprehensive, long-term solution for the Middle East peace process, including the establishment of a Palestinian state coexisting peacefully with Israel.
In the letter, General Secretary To Lam also proposed that Vietnam and the United States continue to cooperate to promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries in a more substantive and effective manner, enhance cooperation across multiple fields in line with the needs and priorities of both sides, on the basis of mutual respect and safeguarding each nation’s legitimate interests, thereby making positive contributions to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
