US Deputy Secretary of State to visit Vietnam: State Department

US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman will travel to South Korea, the Philippines, Vietnam and Laos from June 5 to 14, the State Department said on Friday.

In Vietnam, Ms. Wendy Sherman will meet Vietnamese officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son and Deputy Minister Ha Kim Ngoc to emphasize the strength of the US-Vietnam comprehensive partnership and the US’s support for a strong, prosperous and independent Vietnam.

Ms. Wendy Sherman will also announce additional support for surveying and cleaning unexploded ordnance to demonstrate the US’s continued commitment to addressing the legacy of war.

She will also discuss the supply chain resilience with private sector representatives and, together with Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan, launch a USAID-funded project to counter wildlife trafficking in Vietnam. While in Ho Chi Minh City, she will meet Party Secretary of HCM City Nguyen Van Nen and deliver a speech at Fulbright University.

According to the press release of the US State Department, the Deputy Secretary’s travel to the region reflects the United States’ continued commitment to the Indo-Pacific.
