According to the Embassy of Italy in Hanoi, La Traviata, a unique contemporary dance show, is inspired by the opera of the great Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi and performed by the world-famous Italian dance company "Artemis Danza".

Composed in 1853, La Traviata narrates the sorrowful love story between the courtesan Violetta and the young nobleman Alfredo. Their unfortunate relationship, thwarted by the powerful family of the man and the chronic disease suffered by Violetta, have inspired generations around the world, turning Violetta and Alfredo into immortal symbols of love and tragedy.

Artemis Danza presents the story from the point of view of Violetta, with dance expressing the passion, inner war and despair experienced by her.

The shows will be performed in Viet Nam on 19 September, 19:30 at Hai Phong Opera House (28 Tran Hung Dao, Hai Phong); on 20 September, 19:30 at Vinh Phuc Theatre (Khai Quang, Vinh Yen); on 22 September, 19:30 at Hanoi Youth Theatre of Viet Nam (11 Ngo Thi Nam, Hai Ba Trung, Hanoi) with free entrance until full capacity.

For Hanoi, free tickets (max 4 per person) can be picked up in advance at the Hanoi Youth Theatre or at the Embassy of Italy from 16th to 21st September, from 10:00 to 16:00.

On September 21, Artemis Danza will conduct a masterclass for the students of the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema. The students will then have the opportunity to perform on stage along with Artemis Danza’s professional dancers at the Youth Theatre the next day.

This initiative is organized in the framework of the Executive Program of Cultural Cooperation between Italy and Viet Nam and in collaboration with the Hai Phong People Committee, the Vinh Phuc People Committee and the Youth Theatre of Viet Nam, one of the main cultural institutions of Viet Nam.

About Artemis Danza, Compagnia Artemis Danza was established by Italian choreographer Monica Casadei in 1994. As of today, Artemis Danza has staged more than thirty creations, ranging from contemporary dance shows to choreographies for theatrical performances and operas. In 2007 Artemis Danza became a member of the WDA-World Dance Alliance Europe under the aegis of UNESCO.

Contemporary Dance is one of the excellences of Italian culture, as highlighted by the social media campaign “Italy is simply extraordinary: beIT”, currently taking place in 26 countries, including Vietnam.
