Thai Nguyen ethnic minorities get supports to develop economy and improve their lives

With many programs and practical solutions to invest in ethnic minority areas, the socio-economic development and social security for ethnic minorities in Thai Nguyen have been improved.

Investment with focus

Thai Nguyen province accommodates 51 ethnic groups living together, of which nearly 30% are the ethnic minorities. In order to promote economic development and improve social life for the peoples in the region, the province has identified the effective use of investment resources of the Party and State through Programs 135, 134, with thousands of billions dong to build up schemes of electricity, roads, schools, stations, water supply, residential land, production land, support production, and create permanent jobs.

In addition, the provincial authorities has issued relevant policies to accelerate the development in these regions. Typically, it is well worth to cite for example, the project of “Socio-economic development in areas inhabited by a large number of Mong people” (Project 2037).

After 4 years of implementation, the province has disbursed the local budget, mobilized businesses to support VND 117 billion to support in provision of breeds, fertilizers, breeding cows for the local people; investment in paving the roads from hamlets and villages with a large number of Mong people to be connected to the trunk main road. The program to bring electricity to villages and hamlets after nearly two years of implementation has had electricity reached all hamlets and villages, 99.67% of rural households in the province have access to electricity from the national grid.

By the end of the period 2013 - 2020, 12 communes in Thai Nguyen province were classified as localities of ​​special difficulties. In 2019, there were 19/63 communes and 75/94 hamlets with special difficulties to hit the target of Program 135 (the province ranked first in the country). In the period of 2016 - 2020, Thai Nguyen lifted all 76 villages and hamlets out of lis of localities without electricity, all of which were then connected to the national grid.

Not only focusing on economic development, the province also pays attention to investment in education and health care, creating conditions for ethnic minorities to access public services; promptly adopts specific policies for investment in ethnic minority areas such as socio-economic development projects, stabilizing production and living conditions in hamlets and villages with many H'Mong ethnic people, with the invested capital of more than VND 100 billion to build roads, electricity, water supply, support production, husbandry, planting the fruit trees.

Successful performances could be found at the Ten Hamlet, Van Lang commune, Dong Hy district. This is one of the villages and hamlets benefiting from the project "Economic and social development, stabilizing production and living conditions in extremely difficult villages and hamlets inhabited by H’Mong ethnic people" implemented by Thai Nguyen province.

Mr. Duong Van Minh – Party Secretary of Ten Hamlet said: “With nearly 150 households of the H’Mong ethnic group, Ten Hamlet used to be one of the poorest villages in Thai Nguyen province, nearly 100% of the households were poor.

Thanks to the province's investment in schools, electricity from the national grid to each household; supporting the restructuring of tree varieties and livestock, so far, all 15 hamlets and villages in Ten Hamlet have been invested with concrete roads, with a total length of more than 42 km, 16 classrooms, 7 cultural houses, 3 concentrated domestic water supply schemes. All hamlets and villages have electricity from the national grid with a total investment of more than VND 100 billion.

Narrowing gap between the rich and the poor

In the Resolution of the 20th Congress of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party, for the 2020-2025 term, it was determined to pay special attention to building new rural areas, poverty reduction and socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas; narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor in the area.

To well implement the goals, the countermeasures proposed by the provincial leaders are: Fully and timely implement social policies, create jobs, reduce poverty, improve the material and spiritual life of the people, especially the peoples in ethnic minority areas, mountainous areas.

In rolling out this policy, the Party committees and authorities in Thai Nguyen province have been implementing specific solutions for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. In addition, the People's Committee of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee has also advised the Party committees and authorities to increase the instructions for the localities to have dialogues, meetings and closely get into touch with the grassroots level, especially in ethnic minority areas to listen to the people’s thoughts, aspirations, to find ways to solve difficulties, support the people to develop production and improve their lives.

According to the leaders of Thai Nguyen Department of Invalids and Social Affairs, in the period of 2021 - 2025, the province continues to associate poverty reduction with new rural program; integrate new rural construction support projects with poverty reduction models and social security policies; to step up vocational training for rural workers, link the jobs and vocational training with socio-economic development plans, and strive to reduce poor households by 1% or more annually.

Given the positive results achieved in the past period, in the coming time, Thai Nguyen will focus on implementing the National Target Program for socio-economic development in the ethnic minority areas and the mountainous region in the period of 2021 - 2030; continue to arouse the spirit of national unity and improve the lives of ethnic minorities and mountainous people; expand economic models in remote and isolated areas.

At the same time, it is to focus on preserving the cultural identity of ethnic minorities; improve the quality of education - training, health care for the people; effectively implement policies of the Party and State in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, focusing on well planning, training, fostering and employing the ethnic minority officials as well as officials coming to work in the communes in highland, deep-lying, remote areas, areas with special difficulties.
