Politburo Member, Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and the high-level Vietnamese delegation successfully concluded their official visit to the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Cambodia from April 9-10, 2026. On this occasion, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung answered media questions regarding the prominent outcomes of the visit.

The official visit to Laos and Cambodia by Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu was his first foreign visit in this role and took place right after the 14th National Party Congress, the 16th National Assembly elections, and the elections for the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term. It was even more significant as it coincided with the traditional Bun Pi-may festival in Laos and Chol Chhnam Thmey festival in Cambodia.
High-level leaders, officials, and the people of both countries extended a warm and respectful welcome to Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and the high-level delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam. The visit was a great success and held significant meaning.
Firstly, this initial visit to Laos and Cambodia by Standing Member of the Secretariat followed immediately after the first state visit by General Secretary To Lam to Laos and Cambodia, post the successful 14th National Party Congress. This underscores the special importance that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam place on the traditional, strategically significant relationship with each country. During discussions and meetings, high-level leaders of Laos and Cambodia acknowledged this profound significance.
Secondly, during this visit, the Standing Member of the Secretariat engaged with the leaders of Laos and Cambodia to exchange updates on each country's situation, enhancing mutual understanding. The leaders of Laos and Cambodia highly appreciated the comprehensive achievements of the 13th Party Congress and Vietnam's successful organization of the National Assembly elections and leadership restructuring. They warmly congratulated General Secretary, President To Lam, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam, expressing confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary, President To Lam, Vietnam will continue to achieve new successes.
Thirdly, the visit contributed to further strengthening political trust, a crucial and strategic element of the relationship. Regarding recent achievements, Politburo member Tran Cam Tu and the leaders of the two countries acknowledged the positive, comprehensive development of cooperative relations, with economic, trade, and investment relations increasingly matching the political relationship; security and defense cooperation, infrastructure connectivity, transportation connectivity, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges becoming more effective. During the visit, leaders exchanged views on directions and specific measures to effectively implement high-level joint agreements, including major and new issues such as coordinating responses to impacts from the Middle East crisis, particularly in the energy and electricity sectors.
Fourthly, on this occasion, Comrade Standing Member of the Secretariat met with the Vietnamese community and business community in both countries, listened to their thoughts and aspirations, and had a meaningful meeting with former Cambodian students who studied in Vietnam. These meetings helped strengthen the bonds between Vietnam and the two countries.

Based on the significant outcomes achieved during the visit, we will continue to closely coordinate with Laos and Cambodia to implement the following directions and measures:
Firstly, the Parties, States, and peoples of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia will continue to exchange visits, contacts, and delegations at all levels, especially high-level and Party, State channels, to enhance understanding, build trust, and improve cooperation efficiency, jointly addressing new issues. These are very specific activities but hold strategic significance.
Secondly, effectively implement high-level agreements and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, strengthen Party cooperation, continue to implement cooperation mechanisms between the two Parties, and enhance cooperation between committees, ministries, sectors, and localities. Recently, the Secretariat issued a Directive on strengthening the Party's leadership over the signing and implementation of international commitments, marking an important direction.
Thirdly, strengthen links in trade, investment, infrastructure, finance, banking, and supply chains, creating favorable conditions for businesses from both countries to expand cooperation, striving to soon achieve a bilateral trade turnover with Laos of 10 billion USD and with Cambodia of 20 billion USD, commensurate with each country's potential and strengths.
Fourthly, closely coordinate in border management and protection, preventing and combating cross-border crimes, transnational crimes, drug crimes, cybercrimes, and high-tech crimes.
Fifthly, closely coordinate in preparing and organizing activities to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Laos diplomatic relations (September 5, 1962 - September 5, 2027), the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 - July 18, 2027); and the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations (June 24, 1967 - June 24, 2027), thereby enhancing public participation in the activities of the three Parties, three countries, honoring the great historical values of the traditional friendship, solidarity, and mutual assistance between the three Parties, three countries, and preserving the values of solidarity and attachment as invaluable assets for future generations.
Sixthly, promote the role of media, providing information on each country's development situation and cooperative relations, thereby enhancing understanding, strengthening the social foundation, fostering friendly sentiments, and creating sustainable public support for the development of Vietnam-Laos and Vietnam-Cambodia relations.
The visit by Standing Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu was a great success, demonstrating the high political determination of the leaders of the Parties and States of Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia to elevate the friendly, traditional neighborly relations to a new height, contributing positively to peace, stability, prosperity, and development in the region and the world.
