This includes the construction of 2,653 new houses and the repair of 405 houses, with a sum of over 171 billion VND (nearly 6.6 million USD) disbursed.

Speaking at a conference on May 15 to review the implementation of the programme in Son La, Deputy Minister of Ethnic and Religious Affairs Nong Thi Ha commended the province's efforts and achievements in eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.

To date, 16 provinces nationwide have completed the elimination of makeshift and dilapidated houses. Within this national emulation movement, several provinces stood out for their innovative and effective approaches, enabling them to meet their targets ahead of schedule, with Son La being a notable example, she said.

As a province with a high rate of poor and near-poor households and a significant number of substandard homes, Son La has made commendable progress in recent years. By the end of 2024, the province had supported the construction and renovation of 9,317 houses with total funding of over 441 billion VND, contributing meaningfully to improving the living conditions of disadvantaged households.

Secretary of the Son La provincial Party Committee Hoang Quoc Khanh called for continued communication efforts to broaden the impact of the campaign and mobilise further resources from society alongside state support to help poor, near-poor, and policy beneficiary families rise out of poverty and stabilise their lives.
