At the invitation of Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin will pay an official visit to Vietnam from January 14-15, according to the announcement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on January 10, 2025.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on January 30, 1950. The relationship between the two countries has withstood many challenges of time and today is developing positively in all fields such as economy, trade, culture, education, people to people diplomacy, and is a valuable asset of the two peoples.
In 1994, Vietnam and Russia signed the Treaty on the Basic Principles of Friendly Relations, which affirmed that the friendly relations between the two countries are built on the principles of respect for independence and sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit based on international law. This Treaty marked important milestones in transforming the relationship between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, upgrading it from Strategic Partnership to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
During President Vladimir Putin's state visit to Vietnam in June 2024, the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, security - defense, especially infrastructure and energy.
Mr. M. Mishustin has held the position of Prime Minister of the Russian Government since January 16, 2020.
