At the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Viet Nam Bui Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad of the Republic of Togo Robert Dussey will pay an official visit to Vietnam from 7 - 10 January 2025.

Vietnam and Togo established diplomatic relations on February 8, 1975.

The two countries have not yet opened embassies in each other's capitals. Currently, the Vietnamese Embassy in Nigeria is also responsible for Togo, while the Togolese Embassy in China concurrently covers Vietnam.

In recent years, bilateral trade turnover between Vietnam and Togo has consistently exceeded USD 300 million annually. Togo is one of Vietnam's top 10 largest trading partners in Africa, with trade reaching USD 326 million in 2023, including USD 240 million in exports from Vietnam.

In the first 11 months of 2024, Vietnam's exports to Togo alone surpassed USD 260 million. Vietnam primarily imports cashew nuts, soybeans, and cotton from Togo, while exporting finished motorcycles, motorcycle parts, and rice. Togo has expressed interest in learning from Vietnam's expertise and technology in fields such as irrigation, wet rice cultivation, and coffee production, as well as cooperating under the 2+1 model with FAO sponsorship.

The two countries have cooperated effectively in multilateral forums. Togo previously supported Vietnam's candidacy as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term.
