The activities aimed to honour and acknowledge the revolutionary solidarity between Vietnam and Algeria, while spreading humanistic values, enhancing friendship, and promoting people-to-people diplomacy between the two nations.

These commemorative activities took place as Vietnam-Algeria relations were elevated to a Strategic Partnership during the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and in anticipation of the 50th anniversary of General Vo Nguyen Giap's historic visit and speech in Algeria (January 1976).

During a meeting with Noureddine Djoudi, President of the Association of International Friends of the Algerian Revolution, veteran diplomat and former Algerian Ambassador, both parties reminisced about historical moments in the national liberation struggles of their countries. They also discussed solutions to “ignite the spirit” and enhance revolutionary awareness among the youth of Vietnam and Algeria in the new context.

During the meeting with Mr. Vo Hong Nam, Minister of Veterans and Beneficiaries of Algeria Abdelmalek Tacherift expressed deep admiration for General Vo Nguyen Giap's significant contributions to the global national liberation movement. He affirmed that Vietnam is a prominent model not only in the struggle for independence but also in nation-building and development, expressing a desire for Vietnam to continue playing an active role in promoting global peace and progress.

Minister Tacherift shared that he first met General Vo Nguyen Giap as a student attending the General's talk at Algiers Stadium. He was particularly impressed by the General's sharp analogy likening imperial colonial forces to “poor students, repeatedly failing to learn historical lessons”.

In response, Mr. Vo Hong Nam expressed his heartfelt gratitude for Minister Tacherift's sincere and profound sentiments towards the Vietnamese people and General Vo Nguyen Giap. He also proposed various forms of collaboration with the Ministry of Veterans to educate and inspire the youth, further spreading the unique traditional bond between the two nations over the past 70 years, especially as they have now elevated their relationship to a Strategic Partnership.
