At the invitation of Cambodian Prime Minister and ASEAN 2022 Chair Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visits Cambodia from November 8-10, and attend the ASEAN Summits from November 10-13, 2022.

Officials welcoming the Prime Minister and the delegation at the airport included Cambodian Minister of Tourism Thong Khon, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Soeung Rathchavy, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam Chay Navuth, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia Nguyen Huy Tang.

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen chaired an official welcome ceremony for the Vietnamese leader and his entourage at the Peace Palace in the capital city. The two Prime Ministers held talks after that.

Aside from the talks with the Cambodian Prime Minister, the Vietnamese leader is set to make a courtesy call on King Norodom Sihamoni, and meet with President of the Senate Say Chhum and President of the National Assembly Heng Samrin.

He will also join Prime Minister Hun Sen in a Vietnam - Cambodia investment and trade promotion forum, visit some joint socio-economic establishments of the two countries, and meet with representatives of the Vietnamese community there.

This is the first official visit to Cambodia by Prime Minister Chinh, and also the first time an ASEAN Summit to have been held in-person after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The leader’s official visit, which takes place in the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year, is expected to contribute to enhancing the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation between the two countries. It also demonstrates Vietnam’s support for activities in the year when Cambodia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship.

The Prime Minister’s participation at the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related Summits will also show that Vietnam is proactively, actively and responsibly contributing to maintaining and consolidating the 10-member grouping’s centrality, promoting the bloc’s responsibility and raising its voice to peace, stability and development.
