At the invitation of the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah, Prime Minister of the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria Sifi Ghrieb, President of the Republic of South Africa and G20 Chair 2025 Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Pham Minh Chinh, along with his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese delegation, will officially visit Kuwait and Algeria, attend the G20 Summit and engage in bilateral activities in South Africa from November 16-24, 2025.
Vietnam and Kuwait established diplomatic relations on January 10, 1976. Over the years, the relationship between the two countries has developed across all fields, with numerous exchanges of delegations at various levels.
Most recently, General Secretary and President To Lam met Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah at the United Nations General Assembly in September 2024.
The bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached approximately USD 7.3 billion, primarily with a trade deficit in crude oil. Vietnam exports to Kuwait include seafood, fruits and vegetables, cashew nuts, pepper, wood, and components.
The Kuwaiti Government recognized Vietnam as having a market economy in February 2016. The two countries cooperate and support each other in multilateral forums.
Cooperation in education, labour, healthcare, local governance, and unofficial development aid has also been continuously developing.
The Vietnamese community in Kuwait currently numbers around 200-300 people, mainly workers under contract in sectors such as domestic help, beauty, oil and gas, and hospitality.
Vietnam and Algeria established diplomatic relations on October 28, 1962. Algeria highly values Vietnam's position in the region, with its leaders and people admiring the victory at Dien Bien Phu and supporting Vietnam's resistance against the U.S. Algerian leaders hold a special affection for President Ho Chi Minh and General Vo Nguyen Giap.
In recent years, the relationship between Vietnam and Algeria has been "kept alive" and developed across all fields, including politics, economy, investment, defense, labor, culture, sports, and local governance.
In 2024, Vietnam exported approximately USD 192.3 million to Algeria, mainly coffee, pepper, metals, and chemicals; and imported nearly USD 6 million, primarily fruits, animal feed, and raw materials. About 2,000 Vietnamese people currently live and work in Algeria.
In 2025, as the G20 Chair, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa invited Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the expanded G20 Summit in 2025. The summit will be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from November 22-23, 2025, under the theme "Unity, Equality, and Sustainable Development".
Vietnam has been invited to the G20 Summit six times, participating in several cooperative initiatives within the G20 framework, contributing to joint efforts to address global challenges.
Vietnam and South Africa established diplomatic relations on December 22, 1993. Prior to that, Vietnam had relations with the ANC and the South African Communist Party; consistently supporting the South African people's struggle against the Apartheid regime and the democratic reform process.
The two sides have coordinated well in international organizations/multilateral forums. Recently, South Africa supported Vietnam's bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term, the Human Rights Council for the 2023-2025 term, and the World Heritage Committee for the 2023-2027 term.
South Africa is Vietnam's largest trade partner and export market in Africa. The total bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reached USD 1.72 billion, with Vietnam exporting approximately USD 773 million. As of October 2024, South Africa has 20 investment projects in Vietnam with a total investment of USD 0.88 million. About 200 Vietnamese people currently live and work in South Africa.
