On September 24, in New York, President Luong Cuong met with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid on the occasion of the 80th United Nations General Assembly high-level debate, alongside bilateral activities in the United States.
In a friendly and sincere atmosphere, the two leaders highly appreciated the development of the long-standing traditional friendship between Vietnam and Iraq.
President Luong Cuong affirmed that Vietnam always values and seeks to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Iraq, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.
President Luong Cuong proposed that both sides enhance delegation exchanges, especially business delegations, to explore cooperation opportunities in potential areas and increase access to the Halal market. He also expressed the hope that Iraq will facilitate Vietnamese enterprises in investing in sectors aligned with Iraq's reconstruction needs.
Expressing admiration for Vietnam's achievements in national development, President Abdul Latif Rashid emphasized that Iraq considers Vietnam an important partner and expressed a desire to boost cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, investment, water resource management, agriculture, and infrastructure development for Iraq's reconstruction process.
Both sides agreed to enhance the effectiveness of existing cooperation mechanisms and explore the establishment of new mechanisms, as well as sign new agreements in potential fields.
On this occasion, the two leaders also agreed to strengthen cooperation and support each other in multilateral forums.
President Luong Cuong extended an invitation to President Abdul Latif Rashid to visit Vietnam and attend the signing ceremony of the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime in Hanoi (October 25-26).
