At the meeting, Party Central Committee Member and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang,, on behalf of the ASEAN city leaders, reported to the National Assembly Chairman on the ASEAN City Leaders Conference successfully held in Hanoi on June 8.
Representing the Vietnamese locality hosting the Conference, the Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee emphasized the significance of the Conference as it was the first time within the AFF framework that leaders of ASEAN cities and local governments had a dedicated space for dialogue on regional urban cooperation and development, marking an important step in bringing the voices of cities into ASEAN's agenda.
Regarding the Conference outcomes, Vu Dai Thang stated that delegates focused on discussions about digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and sustainable development, which are common interests in urban development in ASEAN today.
The Conference reached a consensus that cities are not only economic growth drivers but also play a crucial role in promoting innovation, responding to climate change, enhancing resilience, and improving the quality of life for residents.
ASEAN cities aim to build greener, smarter, more inclusive urban areas centered around the people. The Conference also noted many valuable experiences shared on digital transformation, AI application in urban governance, sustainable infrastructure development, green transportation, and environmental management.
During the working session, Party Central Committee Member, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Ministry's Party Committee, and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong shared the outcomes of the ASEAN Future Forum 2026. With the theme “Peace, Prosperity, and People-Centered,” this year's Forum focused on practical issues and opened dialogue spaces for various stakeholders, including governments, scholars, political parties, localities, and youth, which were highly appreciated and widely attended by international delegates.

Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man praised the initiative to organize the ASEAN City Leaders Conference, emphasizing that it is an important milestone affirming the increasingly prominent role of cities in the process of building the ASEAN Community.
The National Assembly Chairman highlighted that this reflects a clearer understanding of the role of cities not only as policy implementers but also as significant contributors to the ASEAN Community building process and the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
Affirming that ASEAN is always a top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy, the National Assembly Chairman stated that the Vietnamese National Assembly consistently accompanies the Government in completing the legal framework, facilitating international integration, and implementing regional cooperation commitments.
Within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), the Vietnamese National Assembly actively collaborates with member parliaments to promote regional integration, ensuring development policies are people-oriented and serve the common interests of ASEAN.
The National Assembly Chairman proposed that ASEAN cities continue to play a pioneering role in innovation, digital transformation, and scientific and technological development; promote green growth, energy transition, and build sustainable cities; while placing people at the center of all development policies, ensuring that everyone benefits from the ASEAN Community building process and that no one is left behind.
The National Assembly Chairman expressed confidence that the outcomes of the ASEAN City Leaders Conference will continue to be concretized into practical cooperation programs, contributing to the goal of building a resilient, innovative, sustainable, and people-centered ASEAN Community.

Representatives of ASEAN city leaders, including leaders from Luong Pha Bang Province (Laos), Mandalay Region (Myanmar), and Siem Reap Province (Cambodia), expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the National Assembly and Vietnamese agencies.
The delegates highly appreciated the ASEAN City Leaders Conference as an important platform for cities to exchange experiences, share effective development models, and promote cooperation.
The delegates also acknowledged the quality and practicality of the discussions within the Conference framework, while affirming their desire to strengthen connectivity and cooperation among cities and commit to contributing to the realization of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
