NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets Georgian Parliament Speaker at IPU-152 General Assembly

WVR - On April 16, within the framework of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-152) held in Istanbul, Turkey, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Georgian Parliament Speaker S. Papuashvili.

During the meeting, expressing his delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations, with two-way trade reaching over 192 million USD in 2025, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man emphasized that there remains significant potential for both sides to explore and enhance cooperation in areas where they are effectively collaborating or have strengths, such as education and training, culture, tourism, sports, logistics, and especially rail transport.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, Chairman Tran Thanh Man also suggested that both sides increase interactions and exchange delegations between the National Assembly leaders, parliamentary bodies, and parliamentarians of both countries. He advocated for the exchange of policies, sharing of legislative experiences, and mutual support at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums, highlighting the role of the legislative bodies in effectively implementing agreements reached between the two nations.

Additionally, both countries should consider enhancing delegation exchanges at all levels between ministries, sectors, localities, and high-level channels, including people-to-people exchanges where Vietnamese students who studied in Georgia play a key role, thereby contributing to further developing the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Georgia.

Georgian Parliament Speaker S. Papuashvili congratulated Vietnam on the successful conduct of the 16th National Assembly election and congratulated Tran Thanh Man on being re-elected as National Assembly Chairman with high confidence from the Vietnamese National Assembly and people. He expressed hope that Chairman Tran and the leadership and bodies of the National Assembly will continue to promote cooperation between the two parliaments, including collaboration at the IPU and regular exchanges through young and female parliamentarians.

Mr. Papuashvili was pleased to share information about Georgia's new developments and announced that Georgia will host a joint conference within the framework of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC). He extended an invitation for the Vietnamese National Assembly to participate and continue contributing to enhancing connections between AIPA and PABSEC.

The two parliamentary leaders agreed to strengthen bilateral parliamentary cooperation and jointly promote the early establishment of the Vietnam-Georgia Friendship Parliamentary Group. They emphasized adherence to international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes based on fundamental principles of international law.

On this occasion, the two parliamentary leaders extended cordial invitations to visit each other's countries to further motivate the relationship between the two nations and their parliaments to new heights.
