National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man successfully concludes visit to Turkey

On the evening of April 18, Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and his spouse Nguyen Thi Thanh Nga, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, returned to Hanoi, successfully concluding their visit to attend the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-152) and conduct bilateral activities in Turkey.

During the visit, Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended the opening ceremony and delivered an important speech at the General Debate of the IPU-152 Assembly.

In his speech, the Chairman highlighted comprehensive assessments of the global situation with unprecedented complex developments.

In this context, the Chairman expressed that the international community still has grounds to trust and hope for the future by cooperating and uniting globally and regionally, with practical actions from each nation based on the rule of law, for peace and development.

The Chairman proposed strategic enhancements in parliamentary cooperation, including promoting dialogue and building trust; establishing legal frameworks, overseeing the implementation of international commitments, and ensuring fair and equal law enforcement.

With an independent, self-reliant, resilient, peaceful, friendly, cooperative, and developmental foreign policy, Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam is and will continue to actively and responsibly participate with friends and partners in addressing common regional and international issues.

On this occasion, the Chairman held numerous bilateral meetings with parliamentary leaders from various countries, thereby enhancing political trust and promoting cooperation in multiple fields such as economy, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and defense and security.

In Istanbul, the Chairman held meetings with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmus.

During these meetings, leaders of both countries agreed that after nearly 50 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam-Turkey relations have developed to a new, more strategic level, requiring an elevation of relations commensurate with the potential and prospects of both nations.

Affirming that there is significant room for cooperation between the two countries, the leaders emphasized making economy, trade, and investment important pillars of cooperation, creating favorable conditions to achieve the goal of raising bilateral trade turnover to 4 billion USD, and continuing to encourage Turkish enterprises to invest in Vietnam, contributing to Vietnam's economic development.

Both sides also agreed to continue promoting cooperation between the two National Assemblies, enhancing delegation exchanges at all levels; regularly interacting and engaging between the two countries' friendship parliamentary groups; sharing legislative and oversight experiences, and building a favorable legal framework for bilateral cooperation, thereby contributing to strengthening and deepening the multifaceted friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Turkey.

Chairman Tran Thanh Man attended a policy dialogue to promote Vietnam-Turkey cooperation; met with the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Istanbul; and engaged with staff and the Vietnamese community abroad.

With substantive activities, Chairman Tran Thanh Man's visit to Turkey was a resounding success, contributing to affirming Vietnam's image as an active and responsible partner in promoting parliamentary cooperation and strengthening multilateralism; while also creating a clear new step forward in enhancing relations between Vietnam and Turkey in the future.
