Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Public Security coordinate to identify Vietnamese citizens rescued from scam operations in Myanmar: Spokesperson

Regarding the Thai media report on February 26 about a Vietnamese fishing vessel colliding with a Thai Navy ship off the coast of Trat province, and Thai authorities reportedly seizing the vessel and detaining four Vietnamese crew members, the Spokesperson said that Vietnam has not yet received an official notification from Thai authorities.

Spokesperson Hang further noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand to coordinate with local authorities to verify and clarify the relevant details. If Vietnamese fishermen have indeed been detained, necessary citizen protection measures will be taken.

Regarding also citizen protection work in Thailand, there have been reports that Thai authorities have detained 43 individuals who illegally entered the country from Vietnam, the Spokesperson stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently verifying this information.

Regarding reports from Thailand that approximately 7,000 foreign nationals have been rescued from scam gangs in Myanmar, Spokesperson Hang responded to a question about whether Vietnamese citizens were among them and how citizen protection work is carried out. She stated: 'According to the information we have received, Myanmar authorities are temporarily holding a number of foreign nationals, including Vietnamese citizens, following a crackdown on online scam operations along the Thailand-Myanmar border. We are still working to determine the exact number.'

Spokesperson Hang added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security on this incident and has directed Vietnamese representative missions in Thailand and Myanmar to cooperate with local authorities in identifying the rescued individuals and carrying out necessary citizen protection measures.

In response to a question about whether Vietnam is taking strong measures in cooperation with neighboring countries to dismantle scam operations along the border, the Spokesperson stated that Vietnamese authorities have been closely working with their counterparts in other countries to investigate, clarify, and strictly handle legal violations committed by Vietnamese citizens abroad, in accordance with both Vietnamese and local laws.

"We believe that all legal violations must be handled in accordance with the law. Vietnamese authorities have been, are, and will continue to closely monitor the situation and stand ready to take necessary and timely citizen protection measures for Vietnamese citizens who are victims in these cases", Spokesperson Hang stated.
