Spokesperson Hang made the statement while responding to a question regarding Vietnam’s stance on the U.S. decision to deport foreigners residing illegally. When asked about U.S. President Donald Trump's directive to implement strict measures to deport undocumented immigrants with criminal records, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang stated:
"For many years, the reception of Vietnamese nationals deported by the U.S. has been carried out on the basis of agreements on reception of susch nationals signed between the two countries. In recent times, both countries have maintained a very close, expeditious and timely coordination with regards to this matter".
"Vietnam stands ready to continue working closely with the United States on reception of these Vietnamese nationals in line with the previously signed agreements. At the same time, we hope the U.S. will continue to provide favourable conditions in terms of residency for Vietnamese nationals thereby contributing to the development and prosperity of the United States, as well as to the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development."
Also at the press conference, answering reporters' questions about Vietnam's preparations for the risk of a trade war, Spokesperson Hang said: "As an economy with a high degree of openness and increasingly integrating deeply into the world economy, Vietnam always pays attention to and closely monitors the situation and developments of international trade to take appropriate measures, minimise impacts on the economy, and at the same time contribute to the healthy development of international trade. Vietnam is committed to strictly complying with international legal mechanisms, bilateral and multilateral trade commitments, and strengthening international cooperation to build institutions, improve capacity and continue to promote trade liberalisation, contributing to the healthy growth of the economy".
