On the morning of April 16, continuing the state visit to China, after concluding activities in Beijing, General Secretary, President To Lam and his spouse, along with a high-level Vietnamese delegation, departed from Beijing to visit and work in Nam Ninh City by high-speed train.

Accompanying General Secretary, President To Lam and his spouse were Liu Haixing, a member of the Central Committee, Head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China; Chen Zhou, Deputy Head of the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China; and Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei and his spouse.

At the station, seeing off General Secretary, President To Lam and his spouse along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation were Beijing Mayor Yin Yong and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in China.

On the train, leaders of Chinese railway enterprises provided a quick report to General Secretary, President To Lam on the development of China's railway sector.

As of early 2026, China's operational railway system reached a total length of 165,000 km, with high-speed railways accounting for approximately 54,000 km, leading the world and comprising over 70% of the global high-speed railway length.

Since the issuance of the "Medium and Long-Term Railway Network Plan" in 2004, within just two decades, China has rapidly built an extensive railway network connecting major urban areas, leading the world in modernity, with a connection rate to cities with populations of 200,000 or more reaching 99%; over 130 county-level localities nationwide have railways.

The total operational railway length in China has increased from 68,700 km in 2000 to 165,000 km currently, approximately 2.4 times.

Regarding the railway construction and development roadmap from now to 2035, specifically by the end of 2035, China aims to establish a modern, high-quality transportation network with a total length of about 700,000 km.

Of this, railways will reach a total length of 200,000 km, playing a key role in the overall transportation system, thereby connecting all administrative units at the county level and above, border gates, and key infrastructure areas.

Expressing admiration for the development of China's high-speed railway network, not only as the longest but also the most widely utilized globally, and expected to continue expanding significantly in the near future, General Secretary, President To Lam hopes that the two countries will continue to strengthen transportation connectivity cooperation, including railways, for green development and national growth.

Emphasizing the importance of cooperation with China in the field of high-speed railway transportation, General Secretary, President To Lam requested the railway sector leaders and Chinese enterprises to share experiences and support, participating with Vietnam in the construction and technology transfer for important railway projects in Vietnam.

Recently, during a field inspection of the implementation of Vietnam-China railway cooperation and connectivity in Lang Son Province, General Secretary, President To Lam affirmed that Vietnam-China cooperation in the railway sector is both a necessity and an opportunity.

If well implemented and properly managed, this will be one of the practical cooperation spaces, helping to reduce logistics costs, transportation time, promote trade and border economic development, enhance clearance capacity, reduce congestion at road border gates, and connect Vietnam with the Asia-Europe railway transport network, thereby diversifying international transport routes, continuing to strengthen regional economic linkages, especially in Northern Vietnam; enhancing regional economic connectivity and elevating Vietnam's position in the Asian supply chain.
