Fostering Vietnam-Denmark friendship through the colours of childhood

WVR - On the afternoon of September 11, in Hanoi, the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association, organized a ceremony to present children's paintings from the "Denmark in Your Eyes" contest to E Hospital.

Attending the program were Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam Lina Gandløse Hansen; Mr. Tran Phu Cuong, Head of the European Department, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations; Associate Professor, Dr. Le Thanh Binh, representative of the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association; Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of E Hospital; Dr. Nguyen Minh Chau, Chairman of the Trade Union of E Hospital, along with doctors, medical staff, pediatric patients, and their families.

Concluding in April 2026, the “Denmark in My Eyes” painting contest for the 2025–2026 season, co-organized by the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association, marked its 10th year of implementation.

A Cultural bridge between Vietnam and Denmark

Throughout this journey, the contest attracted over 130,000 artworks from children across the country, providing a space for them to express their perspectives, imagination, and feelings about Denmark through colorful drawings.

These artworks not only reflect the pure world of childhood but also contribute to enhancing exchanges, understanding, and connections between the peoples of the two countries.

Following the success of this year's contest, the Embassy of Denmark selected over 100 artworks to present to E Hospital, with the hope of bringing more color, joy, and inspiration to the pediatric patients, their families, and the medical staff at the hospital.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to Vietnam, Lina Gandløse Hansen, expressed her delight at being present at E Hospital and presenting the artworks from the “Denmark in My Eyes” contest to the pediatric patients receiving treatment there.

According to Ms. Lina Gandløse Hansen, bringing the people of the two countries closer is one of the important ways to enhance cultural understanding and promote people-to-people connections. In this context, creating opportunities for children to participate in exchange activities through art holds special significance, as it can become a cultural bridge between the two nations.

Sharing with the press, the Ambassador stated that the value of the contest is not only reflected in the artworks but also in the connections fostered between the younger generations of the two countries.

Through the drawings about Denmark, Vietnamese children have the opportunity to explore a new culture, find similarities, and expand their understanding of the countries and peoples of both nations. Geographical distances or cultural differences become closer through the common language of art and childhood.

As a new Ambassador of Denmark to Vietnam, Ms. Lina Gandløse Hansen expressed gratitude for continuing the bond nurtured over a decade of the contest. She hopes that the colours, creativity, and optimism from the artworks will bring more joy and positive energy to the children receiving treatment at E Hospital.

Referring to the 55-year cooperation journey between Vietnam and Denmark, the Ambassador emphasized that maintaining the relationship in the future requires the participation of the younger generations of both countries.

The diplomat assessed that the younger generation has the potential to bring new perspectives and ideas, especially in innovation, green technology, and solutions towards a sustainable future. Therefore, enhancing exchanges and understanding between the younger generations of the two countries not only holds cultural significance but also lays the foundation for future areas of cooperation.

Paintings conveying messages of friendship

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen Cong Huu, Director of E Hospital, thanked the Embassy of Denmark, Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association, and the children for the meaningful gift.

He assessed that the paintings not only have artistic value but also reflect friendship, mutual understanding, and cooperation between Vietnam and Denmark.

Activities like today's program contribute to supporting comprehensive healthcare for children while creating a friendly and positive treatment environment.

The hospital leadership affirmed: “The hospital will cherish and place these artworks in the most honorable and cozy positions, thereby creating a friendly, green treatment space that helps children dispel fear and anxiety about machines or needles, allowing them to feel secure in treatment and recover quickly.”

From the pure perspectives of the world, ideas for a green future with the innocent drawings of children to the companionship with those who need more joy and hope, the paintings have completed a meaningful journey.

Here, the Vietnam-Denmark friendship continues to be nurtured from the familiar and simple things, where art becomes a bridge bringing the people of the two countries closer together.
