Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung meets UK counterpart Yvette Cooper

WVR - On October 30 (local time), the meeting between Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and UK counterpart Yvette Coopertook place at the UK Foreign Office, as part of General Secretary To Lam's official visit to the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland (October 28-30, 2025).

Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Y. Cooper warmly welcomed the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership framework between the two countries and appreciated the efforts to realize the upgrade in relations. She welcomed the signing of agreements on migration, memorandums of cooperation in science and technology, education and training, healthcare, and significant trade contracts during General Secretary To Lam's visit.

Y. Cooper expressed confidence that both sides have numerous opportunities for cooperation in trade and investment, science and technology, including marine science, innovation, and education and training, and emphasized the need for continued collaboration to achieve tangible results.

During the meeting, Minister Le Hoai Trung thanked the positive and effective coordination between the two Foreign Ministries in successfully organizing General Secretary To Lam's visit. He urged both sides to actively implement the visit's outcomes. Minister Le Hoai Trung expressed delight at the positive developments in bilateral relations and affirmed his commitment to working with UK colleagues to advance Vietnam-UK relations to a new stage, matching the new stature and meeting the expectations of the peoples of both nations, for peace, stability, cooperation, and sustainable development in the region and the world.

Minister Le Hoai Trung proposed that the two Foreign Ministries continue to coordinate in effectively promoting and implementing existing annual cooperation mechanisms in political-diplomatic, defense, security, and economic fields. He called for active cooperation and mutual support at international and regional forums and effective implementation of the Vietnam-UK Free Trade Agreement and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed that Vietnam will continue to be a bridge for the UK to enhance cooperation with ASEAN and its member countries.

Both sides agreed to closely coordinate in promptly developing an action plan to implement the contents of the Joint Statement on upgrading Vietnam-UK relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, enhancing the role of coordination in fostering inter-ministerial cooperation.

On this occasion, the two officials exchanged views on several international and regional issues of mutual interest. Minister Le Hoai Trung invited Secretary of State Y. Cooper to visit Vietnam, an invitation she graciously accepted.
