The Friendship Medal is a prestigious award from the State of Vietnam for foreign individuals and groups with significant contributions to building, strengthening, and developing friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between Vietnam and countries worldwide. Awarding the Friendship Medal to Ambassador Marc Knapper reflects the recognition by the leaders and people of Vietnam for the ambassador's important contributions in promoting, strengthening, and developing the friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the United States during his tenure in Vietnam.
Immediately after the medal ceremony, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung met with Ambassador Marc Knapper as the Ambassador concluded his term in Vietnam and prepared to return home. The meeting took place in a warm and respectful atmosphere, coinciding with the two countries celebrating 30 years of diplomatic relations.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung congratulated Ambassador Marc Knapper on successfully completing his term and appreciated the ambassador's significant contributions in promoting deeper and more substantive Vietnam-U.S. relations across various fields, especially the elevation of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023. The minister affirmed Ambassador Knapper's active role in creating strong momentum for bilateral relations, particularly in political-diplomatic, economic-trade, defense-security, education-training, science-technology, humanitarian, and war legacy remediation areas.
The minister emphasized that Vietnam always values the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States; appreciates the close coordination between the U.S. Embassy and the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in implementing high-level agreements and specific cooperation programs, bringing tangible benefits to the people of both countries. He suggested that both sides continue to work closely and effectively implement the agendas agreed upon by the two countries' senior leaders, based on respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, and interests, for peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

In his remarks at the meeting, Ambassador Marc Knapper expressed his deep gratitude for the respectful reception by the leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the effective cooperation and support from Vietnamese agencies and ministries over the past four years.
The Ambassador affirmed his pride in contributing to the robust development of bilateral relations, particularly the elevation to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, thereby enhancing political trust, expanding trade, and improving cooperation efficiency in various fields such as defense-security, humanitarian efforts, war legacy remediation, energy, and science-technology.
The ambassador reiterated that, regardless of his future position, he will always be a friend of Vietnam, continuing to support and accompany the development of Vietnam-U.S. relations.
