During the consultation, Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs Theresa P. Lazaro, in her role as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair 2026 on Myanmar, provide updates on the progress of the Five-Point Consensus implementation, including the results of her mission to Myanmar on January 6-7 and the conference with stakeholders in Myanmar organized by the Special Envoy on January 19-20 in Tagaytay City, Philippines.
Sharing assessments on the situation in Myanmar and the recent elections, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers emphasized that the Five-Point Consensus remains ASEAN's primary guiding framework in supporting Myanmar to address current issues. They affirmed that the full and effective implementation of the 5PC will help Myanmar achieve long-term peace and stability, through Myanmar-led and Myanmar-owned solutions.
Speaking at the consultation, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung affirmed Vietnam's support for the Philippines, ASEAN Chair 2026, as well as for the Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs in her role as Special Envoy of the ASEAN Chair 2026 in coordinating the implementation of the 5PC.

Assessing ASEAN's crucial role and efforts over the past five years in promoting the 5PC implementation, the Minister shared the views of other countries on the need for ASEAN to continue supporting Myanmar in overcoming the crisis. He emphasized that Vietnam is ready to closely coordinate with the Philippine Chair and member countries to propose initiatives and consider new measures to promote the 5PC implementation amid recent developments in Myanmar.
According to the agenda, on January 29, Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung and the Vietnamese delegation will continue to attend the ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Retreat to review and approve priority cooperation directions for ASEAN Year 2026 with member countries.
