The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) will coordinate with relevant units to begin flight inspection and calibration at Long Thanh International Airport from September 26, CAAV Director Uong Viet Dung announced on September 12.

Accordingly, this work will last over 10 days, using Beechcraft B300 aircraft. These flights will primarily take place at night or in the early morning hours to utilise available airspace and minimise disruptions to commercial flight operations at Tan Son Nhat Airport. In some cases, flight crews may need to carry out tasks around midnight to ensure the safety, accuracy, and objectivity of the inspection process.

The crew will conduct a series of complex flight procedures to test, calibrate, and evaluate the accuracy and stability of navigational and landing systems such as ILS/DME, PAPI, and ALS, while also performing radar calibration for systems including PSR/SSR/ADS-B. Most flights will depart from Tan Son Nhat Airport, and depending on weather and operational conditions, specific calibration maneuvers will be performed in the Long Thanh airspace.

Previously, from July 31 to August 2, units conducted several test flights at Long Thanh Airport to evaluate flight procedures based on Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) standards.

Multiple major contracts of Long Thanh Airport are simultaneously being carried out, with units mobilising approximately 17,000 workers and machinery working around the clock to accelerate construction, ensuring the project is basically completed by December 19, 2025.
