During the meeting, both sides discussed measures and orientations to further strengthen the relationship between the two foreign ministries, particularly between the Higher Institute of International Relations of Cuba and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, with a focus on foreign affairs research and training.
Welcoming Mr. Rogelio Sierra Diaz back to Vietnam, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong emphasized that the Vietnamese Party, State, and people deeply value Cuba's wholehearted and meaningful support during Vietnam’s past struggle for national reunification. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to continuously fostering the special friendship between the two countries.
The Deputy Minister praised the achievements and rich experience of Cuban diplomacy over the past six decades since the success of the Cuban Revolution, highlighting the significant role played by the Higher Institute of International Relations of Cuba in research and training efforts.
As Vietnam is building a comprehensive and modern diplomacy to meet the demands of a new development phase, Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong proposed that the two sides intensify experience sharing and agree on a concrete cooperation plan. Priority areas include strategic research, diplomatic personnel training, and exchanges of faculty and students in international relations.
Both Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong and Mr. Rogelio Sierra Diaz expressed their shared desire to enhance cooperation between the two diplomatic academies within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding already signed between the institutions.
Mr. Rogelio Sierra Diaz expressed his pleasure at returning to Vietnam and extended his appreciation to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its warm reception and thoughtful arrangements. He commended Vietnam’s diplomatic achievements and the country’s progress in training foreign affairs personnel, reaffirming his commitment to bolstering collaboration between the two academies in accordance with the existing cooperation framework.
Agreeing with the proposals put forth by Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, Mr. Sierra Diaz pledged to coordinate closely with the leadership of the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam to develop a practical and detailed cooperation plan in the near future.
The Rector also shared the agenda of his visit, which includes meetings aimed at promoting research and training collaboration in international relations with Vietnamese partner institutions.
