From August 19-20, within the framework of his working visit to the United States, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang held meetings with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Thomas DiNanno, Deputy National Security Advisor Andrew Baker, Deputy U.S. Trade Representative Rick Switzer, National Security Advisor to the Vice President J.D. Vance Cliff Sims, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Southeast Asia and ASEAN Hunt VanderToll; exchanged views with former U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink, Senior Advisor of The Asia Group; and worked with the U.S.-ASEAN Business Council (USABC) and the Heritage Foundation.
During the exchanges, U.S. partners positively assessed the developments in bilateral relations over recent times, affirming their commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam and expressing optimism about the prospects for bilateral cooperation.
The U.S. side believes that the flourishing Vietnam-U.S. relationship not only aligns with the interests of both nations' peoples but also holds positive significance for peace, stability, and development in the region. They expressed a desire for both sides to continue collaborating to deepen and enhance the effectiveness of the relationship.
U.S. partners highly appreciated Vietnam's outstanding development achievements in recent times, acknowledging its increasing role and position in the region and internationally.
The U.S. side recognized the potential for cooperation between the two countries in areas such as economics, trade, investment, science and technology, digital transformation, energy, and emerging economic sectors. Representatives of the business community expressed confidence in the prospects of the Vietnamese market, committing to further promote cooperative projects and expand investments in Vietnam in the near future.
For his part, Deputy Minister Giang provided information about Vietnam's situation, emphasising that Vietnam is entering a new era of development, striving to achieve double-digit growth targets. He identified science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as key breakthroughs, serving as the primary drivers for renewing the growth model, enhancing productivity, competitiveness, and advancing the country's rapid and sustainable development.
The Deputy Minister assessed that the Vietnam-U.S. relationship continues to maintain a positive development trajectory following the meeting between General Secretary, President To Lam, and President Donald Trump in February 2026. Regular exchanges and contacts are maintained, and cooperation is expanding across various fields.
The Deputy Minister affirmed that Vietnam values and wishes to continue developing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States in a stable, substantive, and long-term manner. He proposed that both sides enhance coordination in implementing high-level agreements, further leverage the potential for cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology, energy, and new fields, while continuing to cooperate in addressing war legacies.
Both sides agreed to maintain exchanges and close coordination, contributing to strengthening Vietnam-U.S. relations and contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.
