At the meeting, Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet appreciated the development of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in recent years in various fields, including science and technology cooperation.
The Deputy Minister emphasized that Vietnam highly values and wishes to promote cooperation with the US in the field of nuclear energy development, within the framework of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as well as with countries with developed nuclear industries, including the US.
Deputy Minister Do Hung Viet shared that Vietnam has a significant demand for energy to meet its development goals in the near future.
He affirmed that Vietnam views nuclear energy as one of the potential solutions with the dual goal of both serving development and ensuring energy security, as well as addressing climate change by reducing emissions and working towards carbon neutrality by 2050. The Deputy Minister urged the United States to soon remove Vietnam from the list of countries with restrictions on the export of high-tech technologies, in order to facilitate stronger cooperation and technology transfer between the two countries.

Acting Permanent Assistant Secretary of State Ann K. Ganzer expressed her delight at the comprehensive development of the two countries, especially the important milestone of the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Ms. Ganzer expressed her wish that the two countries promote cooperation in the energy sector, an area in which the United States has strengths, including civil nuclear technology.
During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on cooperation programs and related technical issues. The relevant agencies of the two countries will continue to enhance coordination and information exchange to meet the common development needs, particularly in the field of nuclear power energy.
