Cuban Ambassador appreciates Vietnam's solidarity
WVR - On the morning of September 17, in Hanoi, the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam held a press conference to provide information on a draft resolution to be presented to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly regarding economic, financial, and trade embargo measures against Cuba.

Speaking at the press conference, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes stated that the prolonged embargo measures continue to exert pressure on Cuba's economy and livelihood.
According to the Ambassador, during the period from March 2025 to February 2026, the damage to Cuba's economy is estimated to exceed 8 billion USD. Among these, energy difficulties are adding pressure to production activities and the daily lives of the people.

The Ambassador also informed that Cuba currently lacks more than 2.6 million tons of fuel, while domestic crude oil only meets about 40% of the demand for electricity production, leading to obstacles in many essential life activities.
Nevertheless, according to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Cuba is proactively seeking solutions to maintain production, mobilize additional resources, and promote economic development.
After extensive consultation and discussion, Cuba has updated and approved 176 economic and social transformation measures, focusing on 23 key thematic groups, aiming to help the country overcome the current situation and continue to pursue its development goals.
In a message sent to the press conference, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes emphasised the necessity of respecting the UN Charter and international law principles in relations between nations.
The Cuban Ambassador also expressed a hope for the international community to continue upholding multilateralism, promoting cooperation, and resolving issues based on commonly recognized principles.
Referring to Vietnam's support for Cuba, Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes expressed appreciation for the solidarity demonstrated in various aspects. On this occasion, the Ambassador also highly valued Vietnam's consistent stance in supporting Cuba at the UN and multilateral forums, as well as Vietnam's contributions to the joint efforts of the international community.
According to Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, this support is a vivid testament to the affection, trust, and spirit of mutual assistance between the two nations, thereby helping Cuba maintain production, cope with difficulties, and generate additional resources for development.
