Cuba awards Friendship Order to Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies Nguyen Thanh Nghi

On December 26, at the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes awarded Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies, former Minister of Construction; Co-Chair of the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, the Friendship Medal of the Cuban State.
Attending the ceremony were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dang Hoang Giang; Deputy Minister of Construction Nguyen Tuong Van; President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Phan Anh Sơn; representatives from the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, the Vietnam-Cuba Parliamentary Group, and a number of officials from the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies.

In his opening remarks, Cuban Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes stated that the Friendship Order recognizes Nguyen Thanh Nghi's significant contributions to strengthening the friendship, brotherhood, and traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba. The award is even more meaningful as it takes place during the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year, marking the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1960-2025).
“The Cuba-Vietnam relationship is a model of brotherhood, solidarity, and deep affection between the two nations, bonded by profound ideals, mutual love, and admiration; cultivated by the great President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro. These are legacies that today's and future generations must preserve and promote,” the Ambassador emphasized.
Ambassador Rogelio Polanco Fuentes affirmed that in his role as the former Minister of Construction of Vietnam and Co-Chair of the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee on Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, Nguyen Thanh Nghi's efforts and leadership have been crucial in consolidating, expanding, and diversifying economic, trade, and cooperative relations between the two countries.
According to the Ambassador, Nguyen Thanh Nghi played a vital role in organizing and conducting sessions of the Intergovernmental Committee, contributing to the implementation of the bilateral economic agenda, thereby strengthening Vietnam's position as a leading Asian investor in Cuba. Additionally, cooperation in various fields has been expanded, increasing the participation of Vietnamese enterprises in Cuba's socio-economic development program.

For his part, Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for Policies and Strategies, expressed his emotion and honour at being awarded the Friendship Order by the Cuban State and appreciated the recognition from the Cuban State for his efforts in fostering the friendship between the two countries.
Nguyen Thanh Nghi stated that the Vietnam-Cuba relationship is a special, exemplary, and rare relationship in international relations, formed not only based on the interests of the two countries but also from the ideals, beliefs, and profound bonds between the two heroic peoples, separated by half the globe.
This relationship was laid down by the outstanding leaders of the two nations, the great President Ho Chi Minh and Leader Fidel Castro, nurtured with all their dedication, intellect, and pure revolutionary spirit. Over more than six decades, this relationship has been tested, forged, and continuously enriched, becoming a priceless common asset of our two peoples and a guiding principle for the actions of today's and future generations.

“Throughout my career, especially during the years I was entrusted with directly promoting Vietnam-Cuba cooperation, I had many opportunities to visit Cuba, work, and exchange with Cuban comrades in various circumstances. Each trip, each working session, each project, whether favorable or challenging, left me with deep impressions of the resilient, optimistic, and steadfast spirit of the Cuban people,” Nguyen Thanh Nghi shared.
According to the Head of the Party Central Committee's Policy and Strategy Commission, specific cooperation projects in agriculture, construction, healthcare, investment, and production in Cuba, or the factories and projects jointly built by Vietnamese and Cuban enterprises, are vivid symbols of friendship, materialized through practical, humane, and sustainable actions.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the Friendship Medal is not a reward for him alone, but a recognition of the collective efforts of agencies, ministries, localities, enterprises, and officials from both countries who have tirelessly nurtured the Vietnam-Cuba relationship with affection, responsibility, dedication, and sincerity.
On this occasion, Nguyễn Thanh Nghị expressed gratitude to the leaders of the Party, Government, and ministries of both countries for their support and close coordination in fulfilling the tasks; he also affirmed his belief that Cuba will continue to overcome difficulties and develop. Consequently, the traditional friendship between the Party, State, and peoples of the two countries, as well as cooperation in economic, trade, investment, scientific-technical, and cultural fields, will be increasingly consolidated and developed.
