WVR - On the evening of February 2, in Beijing, China, the Vietnamese Embassy in China held a solemn ceremony to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations (January 18, 1950 - January 18, 2026).

The commemoration of the 76th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations took place in a solemn and warm atmosphere.

Attending the ceremony from the Chinese side were Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong; Vice President of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries Lu Xiangdong; representatives from various ministries, sectors, localities, scholars, friendly figures, veterans who assisted Vietnam during the resistance against the U.S., representatives of enterprises, universities, and journalists from local news agencies. Several ambassadors and diplomatic representatives in Beijing were also present.

From the Vietnamese side, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh, along with the entire staff of the embassy, representatives of Vietnamese agencies, enterprises, and media in China attended the event.

This year's commemoration took place as the people of Vietnam and China joyfully welcomed the traditional Binh Ngo Lunar New Year. It coincided with Vietnam's celebration of the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2026) and the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Party—a pivotal congress marking a new era of development for Vietnam and its people. Meanwhile, China embarked on the first year of its 15th Five-Year Plan, entering a critical phase of completing development tasks and deepening reforms.

In his speech at the commemoration, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh reviewed significant milestones in the 76-year relationship between the two countries, emphasizing the positive significance of the traditional "comrade, brother" friendship between Vietnam and China.

Reflecting on 2025, a year of special significance marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the implementation of the Vietnam-China Year of Cultural Exchange, the Ambassador affirmed that the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and China are currently in one of the best phases, with political trust increasingly reinforced, substantive cooperation deepening, and people-to-people exchanges becoming more intimate.

Over the past year, there were five key visits by top leaders, notably the successful state visit to Vietnam by General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in April 2025. The highest leaders of both Parties and countries reached many important common understandings, opening a new chapter in the comprehensive development of bilateral relations across all fields.

Bilateral trade in 2025 maintained strong growth with double-digit increases, reaching $296.1 billion according to Chinese statistics and $256.48 billion according to Vietnamese statistics. Vietnam remained China's fourth-largest trading partner globally. In terms of investment, China was the second-largest investor in Vietnam in 2025.

The Vietnam-China Year of Cultural Exchange 2025 was vibrantly implemented with diverse activities, strengthening the "solid social foundation" for bilateral relations. Notably, activities within the framework of the "Red Journey: Research and Study of Youth" left a deep impression, contributing to educating revolutionary ideals and enhancing awareness among the youth of both countries about the Vietnam-China friendship tradition.

Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh emphasized that the achievements of 2025 have created new momentum, a solid foundation, and strong confidence for both sides to continue deepening and substantively enhancing bilateral relations.

With the foreign policy of "independence, self-reliance, resilience, peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification" of the 14th Congress and in the spirit of the recent phone conversation on January 26 between the two General Secretaries, Vietnam and China will continue to actively and closely coordinate to promote clear breakthroughs in substantive cooperation areas, further deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, and building a Vietnam-China Community with a shared future of strategic significance.

In the solemn and warm atmosphere of the ceremony, guests warmly congratulated the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the achievements of Vietnam and China in recent times, and exchanged best wishes for the New Year, enjoying friendship art performances and the distinctive culinary delights of Vietnam.
