Coast Guard Region 2 Command: Standing ready to accompany fishermen at sea

WVR - Over the past time, soldiers and officers of the Coast Guard Region 2 Command, which has stationed in Tam Quang commune, Nui Thanh, Quang Nam, have tried their best of pursuing the common goal of firmly protecting sovereignty over sea and islands, maitaining peace on the sea.

Accompanying fishermen on the sea

The Coast Guard program of accompanying fishermen and the Coast Guard program with ethnic and religious minorities have become associated with of the Vietnam Coast Guard in general and the Coast Guard Region 2 Command in particular.

Colonel Tran Hong Que - Deputy Political Commissar of Coast Guard Region 2’s Command shared: “For each trip and each activity, we proactively planned and innovated appropriate methods so our campaign would become more approachable with citizens, creating positive effect in mass mobilization work”.

From the remote mountainous districts of Quang Nam, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh to coastal villages along the Central Coast, many people know about the Coast Guard and understand its functions and tasks of coast guard soldiers. Colonel Tran Hong Que said: “We always want to be companions with fishermen, ethnic and religious minorities in overcoming difficulties”.

The distant sea is still full of uncertainties. Nevertheless, fishermen are not alone on their trips. Coast Guard ships are always present in our waters, becoming a strong fulcrum for fishermen. It is also neccesary to mention all the timely rescue campaigns for fishermen at sea by the soldiers of Coast Guard Region 2 Command.

In the past year, the Coast Guard Region 2 Command organized various meaningful activities to accompany fishermen; help citizens in eliminating hunger, reducing poverty and leading stable life; strengthen military-civilian solidarity, and raise patriotism, love of the homeland's seas and islands. Thereby, such measures have contributed to raising awareness and civic responsibility for the cause of construction and protection of the sovereignty, security, and safety of the Fatherland’s seas and islands.

Colonel Tran Hong Que shared his understanding and sympathy for the difficulties and hardships of fishermen in the Central region in their quest to reach the sea.

Not only does it protect lives, the Command of Coast Guard Region 2 also regularly informs fishermen about how to determine internal waters, baselines, territorial waters, contiguous zones, and exclusive economic zones and continental shelf, in accordance to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea; the current security and safety situation of our country's seas and islands; basic contents of Vietnam's Law of the Sea; Vietnam Coast Guard Law; Legal provisions in preventing and combating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Colonel Tran Hong Que expressed: “The Coast Guard always accompanies fishermen. We will be a solid fulcrum for fishermen in their journey to overcome difficulties and turbulence to successfully complete their labor tasks of socio-economic development, protection of the sovereignty of the Fatherland”.

Ready for any missions

According to Colonel Tran Quang Tuan, Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, in 2023, the unit has implemented the decisions of the Coast Guard Commander on merging, streamlining the apparatus and organizing units, in the spirit of modernization and professionalism.

In particular, mass mobilization work is becoming increasingly effective and in-depth. The regional Command has coordinated with the Japanese and Chinese Coast Guards to complete joint exercises and cooperative programs, making an important contribution to the Vietnam Coast Guard's external affairs.

In the coming time, according to Major General Le Dinh Cuong, Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Vietnam Coast Guard, the situation is forecasted to have complex, unpredictable factors. Coast Guard Region 2 Command’s agencies and command need to continue to enhance their responsibilities to thoroughly understand and educate soldiers to understand the nature, plots, tricks and sabotage activities of hostile forces, ready to successfully complete assigned tasks.

Major General Le Dinh Cuong emphasized: “The whole unit needs to focus on improving the quality of training; proactively respond, rescue and overcome consequences of natural disasters and floods for people in the stationed area; conduct search and rescue mission at sea when it is ordered”.
