Ms. Cao Hong Vinh - Head of the European Vietnamese Liaison Committee "For Vietnam's Seas and Islands", shared with The World and Vietnam Report about recent activities, as well as promoting the connection, encouragement of pride, affection and responsibility of overseas Vietnamese towards their homeland.

Since the launching in July 2022, what have been outstanding activities of the European Vietnamese Liaison Committee "For Vietnam's seas and islands"?

To spread the spirit of patriotism and love for the seas and islands of the Fatherland among the Vietnamese community and international friends in European countries, the European Vietnamese Liaison Committee "For Vietnam's Seas and Islands" was established with core members who are leaders of Truong Sa clubs from 12 countries.

These are Truong Sa Club in Germany, Hoang Sa - Truong Sa Club in Poland, Hoang Sa - Truong Sa Club in the Czech Republic, Vietnam Sea and Island Love Club in France, etc.

The Liaison Board becomes a forum to help generations of Vietnamese working and living abroad to easily learn about the changes in their homeland and the situation on the land and maritime borders.

Although newly established, the Liaison Committee has mounted and organized meaningful activities towards the sea and islands of the Fatherland.

On January 7, the Liaison Committee came to Cam Ranh to present Tet gifts to children, officers and soldiers of Navy Region 4 and elementary school students who are children of officers and soldiers in Truong Sa (Spratly). These are gifts to express the feelings and responsibilities of children who live far away from their homeland but always look towards the Fatherland, towards the seas and islands of their homeland with practical support.

In June 2023, the Liaison Committee organized the international conference "The East Sea and Vietnam's sovereignty issue" in France. In particular, a meeting was held with the name “Rember Truong Sa". This meeting is an initiative organized by the Vietnamese Liaison Committee in Europe for "Vietnam's Seas and Islands", for overseas Vietnamese from many different countries to have the opportunity to review footage of the beloved seas of the Fatherland and remind them of the memories of the trip.

At the event, leaders and members of Vietnamese clubs "For Vietnam's Seas and Islands" in many countries have the opportunity to share on activities that have been done and will be done to support the homeland's soldiers and islanders. A collection of Ao dai by designer Ngoc Han, inspired by the love of the sea and islands, printed with the image of a Vietnam map stamp with the Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagos circulating in France was shown at the meeting.

Work of the nternational conference "The East Sea and Vietnam's sovereignty issue" which was organized by Liaison Committee, won the Third Prize in the Innovation category at the 9th National Award for Foreign Communication and Information Work. Is this award of a great encouragement to the members of the Liaison Committee?

All members of the Liaison Committee were very touched with the Award and we feel our work is more valuable and more pervasive.

Witnessing the reality in Truong Sa with our own eyes helps our overseas Vietnamese properly understand the work of fighting to protect the country's sovereignty over the islands and continental shelf, and admire and be proud of Truong Sa's officers and soldiers. This awakens national pride, strengthens attachment, and raises the sense of responsibility of overseas Vietnamese for the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland. That also urges us to do meaningful things for Vietnam's islands and seas.

Could you tell us about the spreading of the East Sea International Conference and the issue of Vietnam's sovereignty?

The conference was prepared within six months with the participation of about 100 delegates who are professors, doctors, researchers on Asia, the East Sea, economists, and geologists from countries such as France, Poland, Germany, Italy, Czech, Vietnam and Vietnamese diplomats, communities in many countries.

At the Conference, scholars including professors, doctors and researchers on Asia and the East Sea, along with Vietnamese and foreign educators and economists, presented papers of high scientific value, mentioning many perspectives on the East Sea and the issue of Vietnam's maritime and island sovereignty in terms of history, legal, political, cultural, ect.

Scholars exchanged the latest information related to the situation in the East Sea, and suggested solutions to handle disputes, on the basis of preserving peace and respecting international law, including marine economic development plans.

The Conference is an opportunity to update and exchange the latest information on the situation in the East Sea. Through images and experiances shared by people who have visited Truong Sa and the DK1 Rig on the lives of our soldiers and people on Truong Sa Island district, the workshop spreads love for the homeland's seas and islands in Vietnamese community abroad, contributing to affirming Vietnam's sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

The Conference is also an opportunity to connect, exchange, consolidate and strengthen the solidarity of the Vietnamese community abroad in general and in Europe in particular. Many foreign newspapers in Europe reported on the event, through which international friends learned about activities to protect Vietnam's sovereignty over the sea and islands.

In the coming time, what activities will the Liaison Committee plan to do towards the homeland's seas and islands?

It is expected that in December 2023, the Liaison Committee will release the Conference proceedings to continue spreading information to international friends.

The first edition will be French version, then the English and Vietnamese versions. We will send the conference proceedings to the Embassies of other countries, so that everyone can get information about Vietnam's seas and islands.

At the end of January 2024, members of the Liaison Committee will return to Vietnam and give Tet’s presents and scholarships to children of Truong Sa -stationed soldiers and officers in Cam Ranh, Khanh Hoa.
