China's Guangxi strengthens media cooperation with ASEAN: Launching International Communication Center​​​​​​​

Guangxi, a region playing an important role in China's new development direction, is accelerating its transformation into a hub and gateway connecting China with ASEAN countries.

On September 6, in Nanning City, the Editor in Chief of the World and Vietnam Report and other ASEAN colleagues attended the launching ceremony of the Guangxi International Communication Center.

Guangxi is one of the regions playing an important role in China's economic development. In recent years, Guangxi has been accelerating its efforts to implement the strategy of becoming a hub and gateway connecting China with the 10 ASEAN countries.

In 2023, for the first time, the trade volume between the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and ASEAN countries exceeded 300 billion yuan. ASEAN has been Guangxi's largest trading partner for 24 consecutive years. With a population of over 50 million and a GDP of over 377 billion USD in 2023, the Guangxi authority has set a GDP growth target for the locality in 2024 of about 5%, which is an important growth rate for China.

In order to maximize its special advantages of geographical, human, cultural and communication proximity to ASEAN countries, Guangxi continues to introduce policies to accelerate links with ASEAN partners in various fields, from transportation to linkages with border gates, airports, electricity grid, information, customs clearance. Guangxi is also accelerating the construction of the China-ASEAN Monetary Gateway, the Digital Silk Road, and the News Port towards Southeast Asia...

In this direction, Guangxi Daily Newspaper under Guangxi Daily Media Group coordinated with Guangxi Radio and Television to hold the launching ceremony of Guangxi International Communication Center to further promote cooperation with ASEAN countries in the field of journalism and communication.

The event was attended by representatives of press and communication agencies from ASEAN countries such as Lao National Television, Cambodian National Television, the United Daily (Philippines), Asia Times (Malaysia), Thai News Agency (Thailand), etc. From Vietnam, there were representatives of the World and Vietnam Report and Voice of Vietnam. The launching ceremony of Guangxi International Media Center was also attended by the Consuls General of ASEAN countries in Nanning along with many agencies, media groups of China and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ms. Chen Yi Jun, Standing Member of the Regional Party Committee and Head of the Communication Department of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Regional Party Committee, said that in order to build a more effective international information system, Guangxi thoroughly implements the important consensus reached between Chinese President Xi Jinping and ASEAN leaders on cooperation at the local level. The establishment of the Guangxi International Communication Center also aims to maximize the advantages of connecting close culture and people between Guangxi and ASEAN, jointly build and share, and establish a communication system to promote practical cooperation between China and ASEAN.

Representative of Lao National Television, General Director Amkha Vongmeunka said that Laos and Guangxi have implemented many cooperation projects in the field of communication. The two sides will continue to cooperate, seek new topics to strengthen their strength, improve cooperation capacity to obtain further good outcomes.

In his part, Mr. Xu Bo, Chairman of Guangxi Daily Group, Director of Guangxi International Communication Center, has delivered the message "Understanding beautiful China from magnificent Guangxi" which is the goal of Guangxi International Communication Center. Mr. Xu Bo said that the Center is striving to create an integrated multimedia platform to "tell China's stories" to ASEAN and vice versa.

On September 5, at the meeting with Ms. Chen Yi Jun, Editor-in-Chief of the World and Vietnam Report Nguyen Truong Son and other representatives of ASEAN media agencies highly appreciated the significance of the establishment of the Guangxi International Communication Center in promoting the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences to jointly expand cooperation between ASEAN press agencies with Guangxi in particular and China in general.

Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Truong Son also expressed his belief that practical and effective cooperation among press agencies play an important role, contributing to the further strengthening ASEAN-China cooperation in many fields, such as economy-trade, people-to-people exchange, culture, as well as implementing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
