CEO Pham Thi Hai Thanh - The journey to bring Vietnamese packaging brands to the international level

Thanks to her persistent efforts, passion, creativity, and desire to run a business and make environmentally friendly products, entrepreneur Pham Thi Hai Thanh has overcome many obstacles, gradually steering Haplast Group to success and bringing Vietnamese packaging products to an international level.

The foresighted leader’s bravery

Born in 1980 in Hai Duong, at 18 years old, Pham Thi Hai Thanh studied in the English Faculty at Hanoi University. In 2000, she continued to look for a 2nd Diploma at the Faculty of Foreign Economics (Foreign Trade University) to equip herself with more international business knowledge. After much effort, in 2002, she earned two university degrees from Vietnam’s two most prestigious universities.

Her education path was relatively smooth, but few people know she had a hard time working many jobs simultaneously to make a living. Born into a pedagogically traditional family but seeing her parents and other people with “spotted feet, muddy hands” all year round just having enough to eat, the young woman thought of doing something meaningful for her homeland, especially when witnessing waste scattered all over the roads and rivers in the hometown. Thanks to her excellent knowledge of foreign language proficiency, and opportunities to interact with foreign customers, she determined that packaging is a product that can be developed and Vietnam has manufacturing advantages. Having quite a bit of capital, in 2008, she and her husband established a trading company specializing in researching and developing packaging and export products. This is also the first company named Hanoi Plastic Bag, with the desire to connect many packaging manufacturing companies in Vietnam to the international market. After eight years of commercial activities, accumulating enough finance, and building business relationships with many countries in 2017, Ms. Hai Thanh determined to reform, turn the company into a pure production unit, and change its name to Haplast Joint Stock Company. The critical turning point was the birth of the first factory in An Thi-Hung Yen on an area of 15,000 m2, with a capacity of about 12,000 tons/month and an export of 10,000 tons. The desire to make Vietnamese packaging brands present in all countries worldwide

Transforming the company into a pure production unit was the most challenging for Haplast. The company needs time to adapt, recruit workers, and invest in modern machinery and equipment when opening a factory. With limited human resources and lack of capital, Ms. Hai Thanh has to hold many positions, such as managing the factory in Hung Yen and running the main office in Hanoi. Taking advantage of her skills and knowledge in foreign affairs, the female entrepreneur has devoted a lot of enthusiasm, persistent efforts, and passion to research and development of export packaging products and business connections with foreign customers. Haplast is a leading enterprise in manufacturing and supplying various products such as food bags, garbage bags, recycling bags, shopping bags, and biodegradable bags. Haplast has developed a customer network in 90 countries and territories with two main product segments: environmentally friendly plastic packaging and biodegradable packaging.

With constant efforts to find the best way to operate as a green corporation, Haplast Group’s factory system has a strict quality control process, certified by reputable organizations worldwide, such as ISO 9001:2015, JIS, BRC, BSCI, OK Compost Home, OK Compost Industrial,… Furthermore, Haplast is a member of the Vietnam Plastics Association and Sedex - the UK retail organization.

Sharing the “business tips” for steering the Haplast Group, according to businesswoman Pham Thi Hai Thanh, the first is the technological factor. “We proactively invest in technology and modern production lines along with a good grasp of the trend of creating quality products that meet all customer needs that not every company can meet”, she shared.

Haplast owns three factories that can supply up to 5,700 tons of products/month with critical products. According to this businesswoman, to grasp consumer psychology, Haplast Group is pursuing the goal of “Becoming a leading economic corporation in Vietnam following the Ecosystem model of providing environmentally friendly packaging products and services.” Currently, environmentally friendly, biodegradable single-use bags and packaging products produced with high technology and have a 24-month decomposition process are gradually becoming a trend.

Haplast Group continues to determine its development strategy based on technology, professional people, robust systems, pervasive corporate culture, attracting domestic and foreign resources, and providing many valuable products for society and people, and environmentally friendly.

Businesswoman Pham Thi Hai Thanh shared about her success and said that her husband is her solid rear. With his support, understanding, and sharing, businesswoman Pham Thi Hai Thanh strongly believes she will continue successfully steering the Haplast Group ship to new milestones.
