ASEAN-CARICOM sports exchange boosts relations with Venezuela and Caribbean nations

The event was held at the Humboldt sports center, attended by Reinaldo Pulido, Director General for Asia, Middle East, and Oceania at the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with ambassadors and staff from ASEAN, CARICOM, and ambassadors from India, South Africa, Egypt, Serbia, among others.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Shalihin Annuar, the rotating Chairman of the ASEAN Committee in Caracas (ACC) and Chargé d'affaires of the Malaysian Embassy, emphasized that over nearly six decades of formation and development, ASEAN has continuously strengthened intra-bloc solidarity and expanded relations with partners worldwide. ASEAN places great importance on enhancing inter-regional connectivity, not only through formal mechanisms but also through sports exchanges that demonstrate team spirit and determination towards common goals, reflecting the values ASEAN pursues in cooperation with Venezuela and Latin American and Caribbean countries.
The Malaysian Chargé d'affaires affirmed that the ACC in Caracas will continue to promote exchange and cooperation initiatives to deepen the friendship and mutual understanding between the ASEAN Community and Venezuela and other host countries.
For his part, Reinaldo Pulido, Director General for Asia, Middle East, and Oceania at the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highly appreciated the ASEAN embassies in Caracas for regularly organizing cultural and sports exchanges in the area. He noted that the ASEAN-CARICOM 2026 friendly bowling tournament continues to be an opportunity to enhance solidarity, friendship, and mutual understanding between Southeast Asian countries, Venezuela, and Latin American and Caribbean nations.
Sharing at the event, Gareth Bynoe, Ambassador of Saint Vincent & Grenadines and representative of the CARICOM embassies in Caracas, praised the close cooperation and impressive economic achievements of ASEAN member countries. He believes that mutual understanding between the diplomatic missions of the two blocs is a foundation for promoting cooperation and inter-regional connectivity between CARICOM and ASEAN in the future, expressing a desire to maintain this exchange activity annually.
Recently, the ASEAN embassies in Venezuela have regularly coordinated with the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs to organize meaningful events to promote friendship and cooperation between ASEAN and Venezuela, as well as between ASEAN and regional organizations such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the African Union (AU).
Through activities like ASEAN Film Week, ASEAN Food Festival, Sports Day, and ASEAN Family Day, the aim is to enhance understanding, solidarity, and friendship among staff, family members of ASEAN missions in Venezuela, and diplomatic missions in Venezuela.
