An Giang province is ramping up efforts to eradicate temporary and dilapidated houses, with a progress review meeting held on March 26 to assess achievements and outline key priorities in the coming time.

According to the provincial People’s Committee, 3,156 households require housing support, necessitating a budget of 174.84 billion VND (6.83 million USD) to construct 2,672 new homes and renovate 484 others.

So far, An Giang has secured 139 billion VND from multiple sources, enabling construction of 1,647 houses, achieving 52.19% of the province’s goal. Notably, Long Xuyen and Chau Doc cities have successfully completed their targets ahead of schedule within the first quarter of 2025.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang, head of the steering committee for the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses, urged localities to ensure full housing support for revolutionary contributors by April 30, 2025, and to complete the province-wide elimination of substandard houses by June 2025.

Quang emphasised the importance of durable, high-quality construction to ensure long-term use for residents. He also called for swift disbursement of funds, prioritising housing support for revolutionary contributors, and increasing social mobilisation to help reduce costs for families in need.
