The book about General Vo Nguyen Giap introduced to Algerian veterans.

This was General Vo Nguyen Giap's first visit to a people's democratic country following Vietnam's victory in the Spring of 1975.

The visit aimed to share the monumental victory achieved by Vietnam after its resistance wars against France and the United States. The General and the delegation conveyed the gratitude of the Vietnamese people to the Algerian people – steadfast friends who supported and assisted Vietnam both spiritually and materially.

Amidst the rising tide of national liberation movements in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, General Vo Nguyen Giap's visit held profound significance, demonstrating Vietnam's strong support for the Algerian people's just struggle for independence and freedom, while affirming international solidarity among oppressed nations.

Unable to visit all locations, Algeria organized a speech by the General to about 10,000 people at the "Stade du 5 Juillet" ("July 5 Stadium") in the capital, Algiers. His remarks on the friendship between the two nations left a lasting impression.

Accordingly, the General affirmed that Vietnam and Algeria are united in the past, united in the present, and will remain united in the future, for the benefit of both nations, for independence, freedom, and social justice worldwide.

With his international stature and reputation, General Vo Nguyen Giap was not only a symbol of Vietnam's glorious victory in its struggle for independence but also a great inspiration for national liberation movements, including Algeria.

The exchanges and interactions during the visit contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and trust, laying important foundations for future bilateral cooperation in various fields.

In a cordial and open discussion with the General and the Vietnamese delegation, then-President of Algeria Houari Boumédiène pledged to assist Vietnam in rebuilding the country.

Algeria, leveraging its strengths, trained Vietnamese petroleum engineers and doctors. These were the "bricks", the initial foundations for successful cooperation in the oil and gas sector between Petro Vietnam and Algeria today.

Over time, the Vietnam-Algeria relationship has been continuously strengthened and developed, based on a solid historical foundation, shared ideals of national independence, and aspirations for national development.

The two countries maintain excellent political relations and effective cooperation in economic, trade, energy, agriculture, education, and cultural fields, while closely coordinating and supporting each other at regional and international forums.
