Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang bids farewell to UN Secretary-General and President of the General Assembly

On May 21 and 27, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations, paid farewell visits to Mr. Philemon Yang, President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, and Mr. António Guterres, UN Secretary-General, as he prepares to conclude his tenure.

During the meeting, President of the General Assembly Philemon Yang extended his warm congratulations on Vietnam’s remarkable achievements in socio-economic development and foreign affairs. He highly valued the constructive and active role that Vietnam has played at the United Nations across all three pillars: peace and security, sustainable development, and human rights promotion.

The President also expressed his sincere appreciation to the Vietnamese Mission and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang for their consistent support for the General Assembly's agenda and priorities.

In his farewell meeting with Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, UN Secretary-General António Guterres commended Vietnam’s contributions and the Ambassador’s personal efforts in fostering cooperation and consensus within the UN. He emphasized that Vietnam’s recent initiatives and proposals have received broad support from member states due to their practical relevance and alignment with the international community’s shared interests, thereby contributing to the advancement of multilateralism.

The Secretary-General affirmed his intention to visit Vietnam again soon and expressed his hope and confidence that the Vietnam–UN relationship will continue to grow stronger, with Vietnam playing an increasingly prominent role in multilateral forums.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang expressed his honor and pride in representing Vietnam at the United Nations. He extended his gratitude for the support and goodwill extended by the Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly to Vietnam, the Vietnamese Mission, and himself over the past three years.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Vietnam’s strong commitment to multilateralism and its readiness to make even more substantive contributions to the common work of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security, promoting sustainable development, and addressing global challenges effectively.
