On the afternoon of August 23, in Hanoi, In the jubilant atmosphere leading up to the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic sector (August 28, 1945 – August 28, 2025), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a traditional meeting representing generations of diplomats.

Attending the meeting were former leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations, along with more than 400 delegates representing many generations of diplomats through the ages. Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son presided over the meeting.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Son reminisced about the glorious historical journey of Vietnam's diplomatic sector over the past 80 years – from the early days of national independence, through the periods of defending the country, to the current era of comprehensive international integration and development.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister emphasized that the remarkable development of the sector is closely linked to the quiet yet immense contributions of many generations of diplomats the “pioneering soldiers on the diplomatic front”.

On behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' leadership, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed profound gratitude for the dedication, passion, and wisdom of the generations of diplomats who have diligently nurtured Vietnam's revolutionary diplomacy. He affirmed that the tradition of “drinking water, remembering its source” is a core spiritual value, always cherished by the sector, becoming a motivation for today's and future generations to continue writing new chapters.

As the country enters a new development phase, the task for the diplomatic sector is to continue comprehensive innovation, building a “comprehensive, modern, professional” diplomacy, successfully implementing the sector's Development Strategy by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, contributing practically to the nation's aspiration for prosperity and strength.

In a solemn and warm atmosphere, the delegates reminisced about the glorious tradition, shared memories, valuable lessons, and conveyed their dedication to the country's diplomatic career.

Former Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Dy Nien emotionally recalled the early days of working amidst the country's numerous difficulties. He affirmed that it was the harsh challenges that forged the courage, dedication, and high responsibility of diplomats, becoming a valuable asset for today's generation to follow.

He also expressed confidence that in the new phase, the diplomatic corps needs to continue innovating their mindset, enhancing their skills, courage, and diplomatic abilities to live up to their pioneering role in maintaining a peaceful environment and leveraging external resources for national development.

He affirmed that today's achievements are the result of inheriting and promoting the precious tradition, steadfast courage, and sharp intellect of many generations of diplomats.
