Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son spoke with The World and Vietnam Report ahead of the Fourth Partnership for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 Summit (4th P4G), to be held in Hanoi.

Deputy Prime Minister, what is the significance of Vietnam hosting the Fourth P4G Summit?

The 4th P4G Summit, themed “Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition”, will take place in Hanoi from April 14 to 17. This marks the first time Vietnam is hosting a high-level multilateral summit focused on green growth, green transition, and sustainable development.

A message of Viet Nam’s determination and efforts for rapid and sustainable development

As sustainable development and green transition have become an inevitable trend and strategic choice for many nations, this Summit offers Viet Nam a timely opportunity to reaffirm its strong commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and to show its resolve in advancing green and sustainable transformation strategies in partnership with the international community-across national, regional, and global scales.

The organization of the Summit also aims to concretize the guidelines and foreign policy orientations of the Party and State of Vietnam, deepen Vietnam’s relations with its partners, and enhance the country’s position and role in multilateral mechanisms. Through this, Vietnam seeks to mobilize international resources for development, particularly in areas such as climate change response, green transition, digital transformation, science and technology, and innovation.

Moreover, as Vietnam enters a new era of national advancement, the Summit serves as a platform to reaffirm the sound policies of the Party and State in promoting sustainable development. Vietnam remains steadfast in “not sacrificing social progress, equity, or environmental protection for mere economic growth.” Green growth must contribute to the restructuring of the economy and the transformation of the growth model, aiming for economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and social justice.

Through this Summit, we aim to deliver a clear message to the international community: Vietnam is firmly committed and making strong efforts to transform its growth model, accelerate rapid and sustainable development, and showcase its dynamic economic potential, unique cultural identity, and the hospitality, friendliness, and resilience of its people.

How has Vietnam prepared to host the 4th P4G Summit, Deputy Prime Minister?

Given the significance and importance of the Summit, preparations for its organization have been closely directed and carried out early on, with the active and responsible participation of ministries, sectors, and the city of Hanoi. These efforts aim to ensure the overall success of the Summit, thereby attracting strong international interest and attendance, while also reflecting Viet Nam’s hospitality, thoughtfulness, and distinctive imprint.

To date, approximately 600 international delegates from over 40 countries and international organizations — including P4G member countries and partners, invited guests, investment funds, research institutes, scholars, businesses, and diplomatic missions - have registered to attend the Summit, both in person and online. This number is continuously being updated.

We expect to welcome high-level leaders from various countries and partner organizations, including the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, three Prime Ministers, as well as Deputy Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers, who will visit Viet Nam and attend the Summit in person.

Regarding the agenda, Vietnam has been actively engaging in consultations with P4G member countries and partners to determine the theme of the Summit, “Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition”, focusing on discussions and experience-sharing around policies that promote public-private partnerships, attract investment, maximize resources for green transition, accelerate the application of technology and innovation to enhance resource efficiency, reduce emissions, advance sustainable energy transition, and prepare human resources for the green economy.

The Summit is expected to adopt the Ha Noi Declaration, reaffirming strong commitments to green and sustainable growth centered on people, and a collective determination to act responsibly in addressing today’s global challenges.

Protocol, communication, cultural, and security arrangements have also been carefully and thoughtfully prepared, with an emphasis on attentiveness, respect, safety, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency. These efforts aim, on one hand, to enhance Viet Nam’s reputation in hosting major international diplomatic events in accordance with international standards, norms, and requirements; and on the other hand, to convey to the international community the most comprehensive and vivid image of the country, culture, and people of Vietnam.

I firmly believe that the success of this Summit will bring value to all stakeholders, helping the international community to identify more effective solutions to global challenges and achieve concrete outcomes in the implementation of sustainable development goals.

Thank you very much, Deputy Prime Minister!
